A Traffic Accident
Everyone has received a gift they’ve appreciated and enjoyed at least once in his or her life. When I was young, I had always wanted to get a Ford Mustang as it has been my favorite car. To my luck, my mother was able to afford one and got it as my graduation gift. it was black and blue it had tinted windows and a spoiler. I was 21 years old and had my drivers license for 6 years already.

I was so happy. I had a new car and I was going to drive it. People would comment how nice my car was including family and friends. One starless night at around 9pm I was driving home from my boyfriend Maikel’s house at 30mph when it happened. I never thought I was going to go through such a terrible experience. And an experience I wasn’t going to forget.

I had an accident. Mario ran a stop sign & crashed me. Since he was speeding my car went in circles about 4 times. While it was going in circles it hit the Mario’s car. I was conscious the whole time while inside the car. I was really scared and worried. All I could say was “Oh my god!“ I felt something else hit my car while it was spinning. It was the other car that it hit. As a result Mario’s car got inside the patio of the corner house. My car stopped in front of a palm tree.

When the car came to a complete stop the driver’s and passenger’s airbag popped out. I saw white smoke coming out of the motor of the car. I thought. “I have to get out the car is going to go on fire.” I tried opening the door but was unsuccessful. Then I looked at my hands and saw that my fingers had cuts on them that were bleeding. A good Samaritan called Robert helped me out of the car by forcing the door open. I sat on the sidewalk crying. I was in so much pain. The ambulance came within 3 minutes of me sitting on the sidewalk. I called Maikel to let him know what had happened to me. When Maikel arrived he called my…...

A Major Accident

...Fahad Al Ashban ENG107 A major accident I never expected that I would have a major accident, but I had a very strong accident that I saw my whole life in front of me and it was the first moment that I saw death in front of me. I was going to my friend’s house with my brand new car when I had an accident and my car went upside down. I didn’t know what happened to me or even what I did before I had this accident, and the thing that made it worse that I was going to my friend’s house to study with him for my final exam which was physics and it was two days after the accident. This accident changed my whole life and my whole understanding of driving a car, after this accident I started to put my seatbelt on when I drive and I started to drive more safely. The accident was three years ago in Saudi Arabia before my final exam, I was 17 years old at my 11th grade, at that time I liked to drive a lot because I recently took my driver license and I was very happy with it. I remember that when I would get bored from studying I would go to the grocery store that is a few meters away of our house with my car and after I get a coke from there I go around my neighborhood just because I want to drive and also because I am driving my brand new car. That car was Toyota, I remember that I suffered a lot to get this car; my father said always that I can’t get an expensive car because it’s my first car and the first car always should be a cheap car. He at first wanted me to take Yaris......

The Chernobyl Accident

...------------------------------------------------- The Chernobyl-accident Saturday the 26th April 1986, reactor number four exploded at the nuclear power plant near the town of Chernobyl in the former Soviet Union. It is widely considered to have been the worst nuclear power plant accident in history, and is one of only two classified as a level 7 event on the International Nuclear Event Scale - the other being the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in 2011. The accident had disastrous consequences - Many people died because of radioactive contamination, and the Chernobyl accident cost the former Soviet Union hundreds of billions of dollars, and some observers believe it may have hastened the collapse of the Soviet government. The reason why the disaster actually took place was because the engineer Nikolai Formin wanted to try an experiment. The nature behind this experiment was to check whether the turbines of the power plant could produce enough energy to keep the cool-down pumpers running until the emergency generator was automatically started (in order to continue the producing of energy). To successfully run this experiment they had to switch off the security system. As a part of the experiment they decreased the reactors energy level so that it only was supposed to use about 25 % of its capacity. For an unknown reason this didn’t happen. Instead the generator used under 10% of its capacity. They noticed they were losing control at this point, so they started......

Cerebrovascular Accident

...erebrovascular accident: The sudden death of some brain cells due to lack of oxygen when the blood flow to the brain is impaired by blockage or rupture of an artery to the brain. A CVA is also referred to as a stroke. Symptoms of a stroke depend on the area of the brain affected. The most common symptom is weakness or paralysis of one side of the body with partial or complete loss of voluntary movement or sensation in a leg or arm. There can be speech problems and weak face muscles, causing drooling. Numbness or tingling is very common. A stroke involving the base of the brain can affect balance, vision, swallowing, breathing and even unconsciousness. A stroke is a medical emergency. Anyone suspected of having a stroke should be taken immediately to a medical facility for diagnosis and treatment. The causes of stroke: An artery to the brain may be blocked by a clot (thrombosis) which typically occurs in a blood vessel that has previously been narrowed due to atherosclerosis ("hardening of the artery"). When a blood clot or a piece of an atherosclerotic plaque (a cholesterol and calcium deposit on the wall of the artery) breaks loose, it can travel through the circulation and lodge in an artery of the brain, plugging it up and stopping the flow of blood; this is referred to as an embolic stroke. A blood clot can form in a chamber of the heart when the heart beats irregularly, as in atrial fibrillation; such clots usually stay attached to the inner lining of the heart......

Accident

...Heena Lal An Accident                 It was a breezy Saturday afternoon. The clouds covered the sun and bought great harmony into the air. I was a young girl about the age of 10 and was standing on the terrace located on the top of the house. I was smiling and enjoying every moment that went through. Yet, I did not know what game fate would play with me that day, and what choice of.              I was walking around the huge terrace and observing what everyone else was doing because I had nothing better to do. I was mostly companied by people older than me and almost all of them were my relatives. A few were my cousin’s friends. I could view other terraces from the top my terrace and people all around gathered together because it was some kind of celebration. They were lighting all kinds of spectacular fireworks and smoke was everywhere. Everyone on my terrace got the chance to light the fireworks except me since I was so young. So I went and asked one of my cousins for a small firework that was not dangerous for me. I was allowed to light a small firework and hold it until it burned out by itself. I happily ran around the terrace with the firework in my hand. The terrace was so huge so I went from corner to corner. I was mindful not to get too close to an opening about twelve feet down in the terrace. The big square opening lead to another house and the chickens were kept in that little area. It had walls around it but there were no stairs connecting to the terrace......

...Accidents in the Home The home is sometimes said to be the safest place and so if in danger most persons would first go there but over the years it can be seen that a large percentage of accidents happen in the home. Traffic Accidents

...Name: David Jenkins Topic: Traffic Accidents Narrowed Topic: Three main causes of fatal traffic accidents in Jamaica. Audience: Drivers, Pedestrians, Police Purpose: To educate the audience of three motives as to why traffic accidents occur in Jamaica and result in loss in life. Thesis: Three causes of traffic accidents are drivers refusing to adhere to road safety rules, deplorable road conditions and environmental factors. I. Drivers have very little caution on the roads, therefore accidents occur on a daily basis with the fault being their own. a. Some drivers have bought their licenses and therefore have no knowledge of the Road Safety Act. b. Dr. Parris Lyew-Ayee of the Mona GeoInformatics Institute, University of the West Indies, Mona, reports that most accident arose from the drivers err tailgating a perfect example to convey this c. Speeding is also a very danger factor and vehicle operators seem to speed more during rain. Drivers, however are not aware that vehicles could “aquaplane” or virtually careen off the road as a result of water forming a second surface between the tyre and asphalt (Boyd, 2012). II. Another cause of fatal traffic accidents are bad road conditions present in Jamaica. d. As a result of lack of financial resources, roads are not repaired whenever damages are present. e. Jamaica, being a Caribbean country experiences long periods of rainfall. This contributes to the deteriorating of road. With......

Accidents of Nature

...Rachel Macia Professor Dunn EGL 301 April 8, 2014 A Review of Harriet McBryde Johnson’s Accidents of Nature Accidents of Nature by Harriet McBryde Johnson is a young adult novel about a teenage girl with cerebral palsy, and her first experience at summer camp. Jean, the protagonist of the story, is a high school senior who attends a “norm school” and has never really come in contact with other teens with disabilities in a social setting. McBryde uses Jean’s experiences at “Crip Camp” to show the readers the necessity of launching a movement towards disability rights. This book is drenched in commentary on the current societal views on the disabled community, and works as a call for justice. Prior to coming to Camp Courage Jean aspired to be “normal”. All of her friends were non-disabled and she took pride in that. The only time that she really considered her disability was when she was acting as a “poster child” for cerebral palsy, or when she was being exploited in the annual Telethon. When she comes to camp we see her struggle to accept her identity as a person with disabilities. She desperately grasps on to this idea that she might some day be a “normal girl”. Finally, through the help of her new friends Jean comes to terms with the fact that she will never be what society considers “normal”, but that doesn’t matter, as long as she is comfortable and confident within her own skin. On her first day at Camp Courage Jean meets Sara, a young activist with two......

Ntsb Accident

...Scenario: This airplane accident occurred on August 2nd of 1985. The aircraft crashed while approaching the runway 17L, at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. It was passing through the eye of a thunderstorm, and the flight went into a microburst that the pilot couldn’t go across. The aircraft hit a car that was in the highway and killed the driver. There were 163 passengers in the plane but not all of them were killed, 26 passengers survived plus 3 flight attendants. Probable Causes: The NTSB determined that the flight crewmember’s decision to start the approach with the bad weather conditions influenced in the accident, besides, the lack of guidelines, training and of course the lack of good procedures were the reasons why the aircraft met a low altitude and made it crashed. NTSB Recommendations: The NTSB recommends that the FAA issue a bulletin for the air carriers to inspect and provide simulator training to pilots during training, to review carrier policy pertaining to weather conditions, caution to pilots to not use flight director systems during wind shear encounter, include a message on the automatic terminal information service when there a thunderstorm, develop a weather course in training. Also it recommends that the AAAE and the Airport Operators Council International advise its members of the circumstances of emergency response to this specific accident of flight 191, and evaluate their own strength and weaknesses. Car Accidents

...Causes of Car Accidents For many people, driving a vehicle is an everyday activity. People rely on their cars to get to work, school, and other important places. However, driving can be dangerous, and although weather conditions and car malfunctions can contribute to accidents, the behavior of drivers is most often the cause of accidents. The three main causes of car accidents are poorly trained drivers, distracted drivers, and impaired drivers. One cause of car accidents is poorly trained drivers. Drivers who don’t follow the rules of the road can be putting themselves and others at risk. For example, drivers who exceed the speed limit will have a more difficult time stopping or turning if something, such as an animal, crosses their path. In addition, there are road signs that drivers need to recognize, understand, and obey. Other drivers cannot tell how people who do not obey road signs will drive, and this unpredictability can lead to accidents. Finally, not checking blind spots and not being aware of one’s surroundings can result in a collision. A driver who is not aware of what is around his or her vehicle may crash into other cars or objects, not realizing they are there. For these reasons, poorly trained drivers can cause accidents. Distracted drivers are another cause of car accidents. Driving is a task that requires the driver’s full attention, so performing other tasks while driving can lead to an accident. For example, people who talk on their cell phone while......

Car Accidents

...Car Accident Articles and Statistics Statistics show that 70% of auto accidents are completely preventable. The driver who causes the accident is simply distracted or irresponsible and is not paying enough attention to the road. The truth is anything can cause you to be distracted from the road; reaching for food or drink, changing the radio station, talking to passengers, texting, or even reading a map or GPS. As a driver, one needs to realize that one has a responsibility to one’s passengers and everyone on the road around oneself to be a safe, observant, and careful driver. In one of my articles, a 19-year-old was driving three 15-year-olds in his car. He was drunk and he was involved in a one car accident. Because of this, one of his passengers died. This accident was completely preventable. If the driver had been more responsible, he would have not driven while intoxicated or have even consumed alcohol in the first place. On April 12th, 2011, a 23-year-old was traveling at least 100 mph before he crashed. This driver was on a motorcycle and died from the accident. This could have been prevented if the motorcyclist would have just reduced his speeds to a safer one. The driver could have saved his own life if he had just slowed down a bit. In another article, a man was standing in the street trying to get a good look at a shuttle launch. This man was 70-years-old and died hours after the crash. The man should have not been standing in the street, but drivers......

The Accident

...The Accident I woke up in a very strange place. A place I wasn’t quite familiar with. My left arm and left leg wrapped in some kind of brace. I’m familiar with the sporting braces, but this one, was a whole lot different. It had the same fabrics as a regular sporting brace, but much thicker. It was as hard as wooden table. It even sounded like one when I knocked on it. Because of the braces on me, I could barely move my left arm or left leg. After trying to move it, I felt a lot of pain in the process. Everything was so shocking to me. I kept saying to myself, “Where am I? “Where am I? “Where am I? As these questions rushed through my mind, I heard a voice. I looked around the room in search of the voice. On my right, there was a man. He said to me, “What’s wrong Larry”? “You had bad dream or something”? I did not reply. I closed my eyes and started to pray to God. Praying for everything that I just saw was all a dream. With my head against my right hand, everything got quite for a bit. About a minute or two later, I opened my eyes. The braces and the pain were still there. The gentleman kept calling me, “Larry”. He was talking, but I paid no attention. I kept thinking why he was calling me “Larry”. “Who are you”? “And why are you calling me Larry”? I said. He replied saying, “Because it’s your name.” “And I’m Gary, if you forgot that.” I kept looking at him and notice that he wasn’t wearing any of the equipments I was wearing. He had something else. Some kind of......
