The purpose of this 3-wave study is to examine the micro process of how employees adapt to change over time. We combined Conservation of Resources theory with insights from the organizational change literature to study employees in a Dutch police district undergoing reorganization. A model was tested where employee adaptability, operationalized by the presence of resources, predicts individual adaptive attitudes as well as adaptive behavior over time. Change information was included as a contextual change resource and meaning-making as a personal change resource. The research design allowed for examining longitudinal relationships by capturing data (1) before (Time 1), (2) during (Time 2), and (3) after change implementation (Time 3). He says that people do not have problems with change itself, but rather with transitions. The change is the situation, i.e., the new boss, the move, the reorganization, etc. The transition is “psychological. It is the three-phased process people go through as they internalize and come to terms with the details of the new situation that the change brings about.” “People have to bring their hearts and minds to work,” so when change comes along, “transition management…is a way of dealing with people that makes everyone feel more comfortable.” The first phase is Letting Go—the ending of the old. People need to deal with their losses. Next is the “neutral zone,” when the old is gone and the new is not fully operational. Psychological realignments take place. ...Adapting to drought in the Sahel: lessons for climate change Michael Mortimore∗ The Sahel’s experience of adapting to changes in rainfall on a scale at least comparable to that of climate change scenarios, between the 1960s and the 1990s, suggests that lessons can be learnt that may have a wider utility for policy in the future. The Sahel is a major global agroecological region and its success in adaptation will influence the achievement of the global Millennium Development Goals. From simple typologies of adaptation strategies, our understanding of adaptive capacity has evolved over time (with accumulating observations) into a contextual model which places drought management at the center of a development process. Climate change impacts in future are very uncertain. ...In the article “Value Change and the Rise of New Politics”, Neil Nevitte argues that there are deepening intergenerational changes happening in “advanced democracies”; he argues that the younger generations are developing new values different of those from the elder. Nevitte suggests that “these value shifts have had a profound impact on our social, economic, and political lives”,(2007) and therefore there has been a shift in the style of politics, from old politics to new politics and the matters each of these systems deal with. The novel begins in Robledo, California, with a young girl Lauren who is the daughter of a Baptist minister in the community. Lauren has a disease called hyper empathy syndrome. She got this from her mother who was addicted to prescription medicines. This disease allows her to feel the pain of others. The major motifs that we see in the book are religion, fire, freedom, community, and adapting to change. The largest theme that we see throughout the entire book is being able to adapt to change. We see this when Lauren has to leave for the first time and is able to adapt to from leftover resources. Lauren lives with her family in a walled community. On the outside of their community life is terrible. There is no food on the outside that people are always trying to break in to the community and steal food, animals, and just any resources that would be useful for them. ...There are many reasons why new laws should be introduced to make organic farming techniques compulsory for all Australian growers. The use of toxic chemicals can easily be eliminated from agriculture. The costs of the change are insignificant compared to the benefits gained, and the added profitability to farmers who use organic methods are among the many benefits of organic farming and sustainable agricultural practices. Advances in agricultural science and technology have made it possible for all Australian farmers to produce fruit and vegetables organically.
