APPROACH DOCUMENT FOR PRIVATE CLOUD
This document outlines the approach to be followed to take up a private cloud initiative.
THE CLOUD COMPUTING & PRIVATE CLOUDS
Cloud Computing is the latest IT trend which is so promising for both IT & business results. With a lot of hype cycle predicted for next few years and all vendors embracing cloud concepts at their possible levels, customers are tempted to try & embrace cloud for their benefits. However, a few questions bother the customers like:
• Is it just another buzzword or a real game changer?
• Is it safe enough?
• Does it give results to me, to my specific setup, for my workloads?
• Is it proven & trusted enough?
• How effectively does it build on top of the applications, infrastructure & expertise that my organization already has?
We advise the Cloud Computing Solution Advisor to keep all these things in mind while a cloud promise is made to customer. Essentially all aspects of a customer’s current & past details are key for successfully drafting a cloud strategy or a cloud computing roadmap for a customer.

...A Stochastic Approach to Indian Banking Sector : Technical Analysis of Private Sector Banks Dr. Rahul Rajan Abhilasha Srivastava Abstract The objective of this paper is to present a method for estimating the cost efficiency of Indian banks in order to study the degree of technical and cost performance of the Indian banking sector and to analyze how the banking sector has been affected by technical efficiency and cost efficiency. Initially, the evolution in the technical front in the banks between 2005 to 2012 is measured. For this analysis purpose a sample of 101 Indian banks including 28 public ,29 private and 44 foreign banks operating in India is taken for the period 2005-2012. For analysis purpose both the parametric method of productive efficiency frontier (Stochastic Frontier Analysis ) and nonparametric method (Data Envelopment Analysis) are taken. ...Deploying an Open Source Private Cloud Infrastructure: A Cloud Computing Adoption Abstract The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate and show the technical and logical part of building an open source cloud. The process of doing this took two main different approaches in making it work. This thesis will explain and demonstrate the two ideas which were diskless booting distributing computing and Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud based on Eucalyptus. In order to understand the technologies used, a project on building the cloud was done at the premises of the Central Luzon State University – Information Systems Institute, Science City of Munoz. In this project, the installation and configuration were done on two Ubuntu servers and one client Ubuntu desktop computer in both approaches. As the project went on, challenges were encountered which caused the change to different ways of facing the aim and the objective of the project. Regarding the first approach of building a cloud computing environment, explanations on how the idea came about, how to use preboot execution environment, booting through the network and managing the cluster computers remotely from the servers are all included in this thesis. Drawbacks of this approach are also explained in this documentation. Regarding the second approach, Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud based on Eucalyptus was used as the preferred technology.......

Despite being hard to define, Gartner Research named cloud computing as one of the top technologies to watch in 2010, 2011, and 2012. At its core, cloud computing is a technical architecture that meets a specific business need. This chapter traces the roots of cloud computing from its origins in mainframe distributed computing, discusses the basics of the cloud computing model today, and offers insights for future directions that are likely to be pursued in the cloud computing arena. A number of challenges to cloud computing are identified, including concerns of security and how to deal with the rise of mobile computing. Fully utilized hardware Cloud computing brings natural economies of scale. Your workloads will share server infrastructure with other organizations' computing needs. This allows the cloud-computing provider to optimize the hardware needs of its data centers, which means lower costs for you. 2. Lower power costs Cloud computing consumes less electricity. That's an inevitable result of the economies of scale I just discussed: Better hardware utilization means more efficient power use. When you run your own data center, your servers won't be fully-utilized (unless yours is a very unusual organization). Idle servers waste energy. So a cloud service provider can charge you less for energy used than you're spending in your own data center. 3. Lower people costs Whenever I analyze organizations' computing costs, the staffing budget is usually the biggest single line item; it often makes up more than half of the total. Why so high? It generalizes the existing literature by introducing combinatorial auctions of heterogeneous VMs, and models dynamic VM provisioning. Social welfare maximization under dynamic resource provisioning is proven NP-hard, and modeled with a linear integer program. An efficient α-approximation algorithm is designed, with α ∼ 2.72 in typical scenarios. We then employ this algorithm as a building block for designing a randomized combinatorial auction that is computationally efficient, truthful in expectation, and guarantees the same social welfare approximation factor α. A key technique in the design is to utilize a pair of tailored primal and dual LPs for exploiting the underlying packing structure of the social welfare maximization problem, to decompose its fractional solution into a convex combination of integral solutions. Empirical studies driven by Google Cluster traces verify the efficacy of the randomized auction. I.
