...Is Wal-Mart's stated vision aligned with the needs of their stakeholders? Melissa Stacy MGT 499 MOD 1 Wal-Mart, the world largest and most successful corporation, also has the unflattering reputation of being so uncaring that it now symbolizes corporate social irresponsibility in the eyes of many Americans. Wal-Mart's problems with its own employees are not just perceptual but fundamentally due to the company's targeting and positioning choice: the delivery of always low prices to customers has meant that such stakeholder groups as employees have had to be squeezed. How did a company heralded as a hero as recently as in 2000 become a corporate monster only a few years later? The company's current predicament was not only foreseeable, but a logical consequence of its strategic choices, through its unbalanced approach to stakeholder commitment. Wal-Mart views its shareholders, consumers, and the community as their most important group of stakeholders, while employees are its second most important one. Wal-Mart has recently begun focusing on providing an explanation related for the company's poor performance with its self-declared second most important stakeholder group: its employees. Wal-Mart is being sued for what some workers say is widespread bad practice in forcing workers to do extra work "off the clock"- unpaid. Wal-Mart's policies forbid the practice, but managers under intense pressure to cut costs have allegedly resorted to it in......

...competitive market due to the low quality services offered since it was not motivated by making profit. Today, the corporation has lost many customers to other media house and still faces a bevy of challenges such as workers strikes and managerial problems and political influence among others. Many of the corporation’s commentators have of late relocated her competitors due to better pay and other better terms of service (Okundi, 57-90). The most effective way that the corporation’s efficiency can be stepped up is by privatization but the public should have more shares than the private investors so as to deal with this highly competitive environment (Kenya Post and Telecommunications Corporation 67-104). However, like any other business entity, the firm has been modernized currently and expanded to offer a wide range of media services such as news, games, special coverage of parliament proceeding s among other services. There is need to partner with other communication firms so as to unify its management and services with the international standards. This will help to beat up other firms in the industry due to the government protection and funding the firm enjoys. The corporation can also ensure that it is serving the diversified Kenyan community which is composed of 42 ethnic groups satisfactorily by even reaching to those who may not be able to understand the English and Swahili languages used by the corporation. The workers welfare should be prioritized......

...MGT 499 Module 1 SLP 1 MGT 499 Strategic Management Module 1 Session Long Project Christie E. Rains Trident University International Professor: Sara GarskiMGT 499 Module 1 SLP 2 The organization I chose to cover for my Session Long Project will be a small business I once owned. A few years back, my father and I chose to enter into (purchase a piece of) a franchise company “Pittsburgh Paints”; a part of a larger organization, PPG Industries: “Bringing innovation to the surface”. PPG has several different business opportunities, including: paints and coating, optical, speciality materials, chemicals, and glass and fiberglass. My father, being a contractor/builder, in our small town, leased a store front for his previous construction company. In lieu of utilizing this space for his business, we decided to open a House Paint and Deck Stain store. The town my father lives in is small, therefore, everyone living and working in the county must “work together” in order for all to provide for their individual families. With that being said, there was already a house paint store in place, just located on the opposite side of town. To not impose, we chose a company more geared towards “subcontractors” vice the “homeowner” (though we still provided a homeowner line of product for those coming into our store “off the streets”. Our store, selling PPG’s Pittsburgh Paints, was called “ProFormance Paints”. PPG Industries' vision is to continue to be the world’s leading......

...resources, capabilities, and core competencies discussed above. External and Internal Environment All other things being equal, the primary objective of any business is to obtain a larger market share, affect its bottom line, grow, and become successful. To achieve their goals, businesses must deal with their stakeholders which include: customers, suppliers, employees, competitors, shareholders, society and others. Businesses will encounter stiff competition domestically and internationally in a bid to achieving their set objectives. For a firm to have competitive advantages over others in the industry, it must be able to predict the future and understand the present. The firm should take into cognizance the internal and external environment of the industry, which impact directly or indirectly on their activities. Amazon, which has become the world’s largest e-commerce merchant was founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 in Seattle, Washington. Their initial product was books and in July, 1995 went online (Kotha, 1998). Amazon means “exotic and different”, their mission statement is "Earth's most customer-centric company where people can find and discover anything they want to buy online". Amazon has structured itself away from the traditional value chain and branch boundary models into a new business environment that explores the electronic market; that sets it apart from its competitors. Their online bookstore did so well in the first two months; they went......

...Assuming said fund has been around for 25 years. We take an arbitrary sample of annual returns of the fund for, approximately five years and compute its mean. We then perform a calculated comparison to the claimed population mean to prove the hypothesis. • Statistically significant - The possibility that a result is triggered by something other than mere coincidence. Statistical hypothesis testing is customarily used to decide if a result is statistically substantial or not. This provides a "p-value" representing the probability that random chance could describe the result. A rule of thumb is that a 5% or lower p-value is considered to be statistically significant. For example, if a designer for house slippers needed to plan production for the number of pairs of house shoes a shoe company should make in each size for men and for women. The production decision would not be based on the circumstantial evidence that men usually have larger feet than women; hard data would be required to make an accurate decision. Therefore, you should analyze a statistical study that defines the correlation between male and female foot size. 4. A homeowner is getting carpet installed. The installer is charging her for 250 square feet. She thinks this is more than the actual space being carpeted. She asks a second installer to measure the space to confirm her doubt. Write the null hypothesis Ho and the alternative hypothesis Ha. Ans #1. Ho : μ > 250......

...Running head: DIVERSIFICATION STRATEGIES Week 4 Assignment 2 Dr Hassan Yemer Contemporary Business/BUS 508 Strayer University January 24, 2011 1) Compare and contrast the two businesses—core business, their size, financials, global presence, use of e-business (marketing, sales, etc.). A diversified company is one that has multiple, unrelated businesses. Unrelated businesses are those, which (1) require unique management expertise, (2) have different end customers and (3) produce different products or provide different services. One of the benefits of being a diversified company is that it buffers a company from dramatic fluctuations in any one-industry sector. However, this model is also less likely to enable stockholders to realize significant gains or losses because it is not singularly focused on one business. Investopedia (2011) states that companies may become diversified by entering into new businesses on its own, by merging with another company or by acquiring a company operating in another field or service sector. One of the challenges facing diversified companies is the need to maintain a strong strategic focus to produce solid financial returns for shareholders instead of diluting corporate value through ill-conceived acquisitions or expansions. Wal-Mart and Kmart; along with Target are the three primary......

... Employee Portfolio Management Plan Jesselyn Boone 07/16/2012 MGT/311 Gary Connelly Employee Portfolio Management Plan This paper will discuss the results of self-assessments, as well as the employee portfolio management plan. It will also discuss how these three employees’ characteristics might affect the performance of the organization and any recommendations that might be considered for additional assessments. Doing the employee portfolio plan, really explained how happy an employee is with their job. It also pointed out how they can improve themselves as an individual, but more as a good employee for any company or business. The characteristics of each employee interviewed varied upon their feelings about their job as well as their ability at their job. When doing each of these individuals employee assessment I noticed some of them to be lazy and not content with their job and other’s that were very motivated and dedicated workers but weren’t getting the praise they deserved as employees. For instance when I did Jody Webb’s assessment I noticed that she is satisfied with her job, a motivated worker, but she doesn’t make smart decisions. Jody tends to make quick decisions without even thinking first of the consequences or the outcome of the situation. This can be bad for a company if their ideal goal is to make good decisions. Coley Boone’s assessment was little different, as he seems like an excellent employee, he is a hard worker, dedicated to his job, but like......
