Experience with change
In today’s business world there will always be change. If each and every corporation does not keep up with the changes they will not survive. Look at the company of United Technologies Corporation (UTC). They are continuously changing. They are either selling part of their company or even better they are buying out other companies. They are always looking to outsource and find the most economical way to build their products. They look to see how they can consolidate the factories and move different product lines to factories they feel they can close.
According to (Bloomberg Business week, 2006, January 30) globalization has been brutal to the mid-western states. This is why I am living in AZ now. UTC had moved their repair facility to Phoenix AZ. There were many people that lost their jobs and or had to relocate. To strive in this new world one has to be flexible.
UTC is proposing the acquisition of another large company name Goodrich. This change will only make UTC a stronger Corporation. “UTC expects that their 2012 earnings per share of 0 to 4 percent from continuing operations including Goodrich.” United Technologies (2012, March 15, para. 1). In turn when the announcement was made that they were making the acquisition of Goodrich, they also made the announcement that were going to be selling off their Industrial businesses. These businesses include Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne, Clipper wind power, Milton Roy, Sullair and Sundyne.
The leadership’s role in this type of change is to make sure that the acquisition runs smoothly, and it does not disrupt the input and out of the manufactured goods. They also have to decide what skill sets they need and not have duplicated job functions.
