I will be taking the time to explain my current writing approach. The first thing that I do is make sure I have a quiet area to work in and a sound mind so that I can focus on my writing. I usually use my laptop to write because pen and paper makes me nervous. I begin writing what I know and like to discuss, which is called discovering and brainstorming. Then after I have discovered and brainstormed, I begin narrowing down what I want to write about such as: Topic sentence and supportive details. After finalizing my topic sentence, I move forward and compose my rough draft. By drafting what I have written, it allows me to add thoughts and to subtract the unnecessary supporting details. Then after I have done that, I revise the draft by rearranging ideas and reshaping sentences to make a smooth and flowing paper. After carefully examining the paper to see if it contains any errors of grammar, spelling, or punctuation for the last time, I then proceed to write my final paper. In conclusion, the four stages of writing which is discovering, drafting, revising, editing and proofreading has helped and guided me to write…...

Com155 Week 2 Assignment

...The five steps of the writing to me are first prewriting, which is simply jotting your ideas down on paper so you can remember them and keep them in somewhat of an order. Second is outlining, I see that as a way to get all of your ideas in order so it will make better sense to you and the reader. Writing a rough draft is simply writing your essay out on paper or notepad so you can re-read it to check for any errors. Revising is reading your essay in the hopes to catch anything that is out of order and would need to be put somewhere else in your essay. Last is editing simply checking for any spelling errors, grammar and sentence structure then submitting it. I have chosen two methods of losing weight, the reason I have chosen that is because I’m a bigger guy and I’m currently trying to lose weight. I figured if I chose this as my final assignment I will actually look up the information that I will need, also while being able to help myself on what works better and why. Also I don’t see why it would hurt anyone not to know the pros and cons of weight lose methods, once I’m better able to understand the information I will be able to assist others as well. In my SCI162 class I believe it will help me as well for our weekly challenges we have so I can be a leader for my team by giving them better directions....

...Compare Contrast Essay Week 9 COM 155 Winston Miller Whole Foods versus Processed Foods Did you know that Cancer can be caused by the food you eat? Studies reveal that eating processed food on a regular or constant basis can be the cause of cancer, heart disease and many other health problems. Processed foods are any foods that are changed from their natural form. Many people buy these foods at the grocery store on a daily basis not realizing the potential health risk. Processed foods are preserved with chemicals, additives, and colors as well as sweeteners, and have very long shelf lives. Aspartame is a substitute sweetener which is used in most sugar substitutes such as “Sweet N Low,” “Equal,” and “Splenda.” Aspartame’s appeal is that it has less calories than real sugar but it has been linked to causing problems like Multiple Sclerosis. Most people are attracted to processed foods because they are fast and easy to prepare. There are other processed foods that have been linked to diseases such as: Trans fats, high fructose corn syrup, sugar, and monosodium glutamate or MSG. Trans fats are found in all processed foods and fast food. They are linked to heart disease, cancer, skin issues, learning disabilities, and stunted growth. High fructose corn syrup is widely used in the US and it has been found that Americans ingest over 67 pounds of it a year. Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems

...Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems Clinton Ward COM155 February 17, 2013 Joyce Keeling Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems Air conditioners and heat pump systems are used by most people in the world today. They are used to cool in the summer time and to heat in the winter time. These machines are bought and used when most people do not even understand the principle on which they work. The machines are expected do what they are designed to do, and when they cease to do this, they can be costly to repair. Air conditioners and heat pumps are similar in appearance and operation, but while using the same components they can perform completely different tasks. Knowing the difference between the two and the principle in which they perform their tasks will enable each person to make an informed decision when the time comes to repair or replace a piece of equipment. Air conditioners and heat pumps have several components that work in the same way. The compressor is the heart of the system. It is present in both an air conditioner and a heat pump. The compressor pumps the refrigerant throughout the system and enables the system to heat and cool. A few other components in an air conditioner and a heat pump are the metering device, the indoor coil, and the outdoor coil. These four basic components must be present for the cooling process to take place. There are a few components in heat pumps that do not show up in air conditioners. These devices are what make......

Com155 Compare and Contrast Essay

...The Tasty Contrast and Comparison of Home-baked and Store-bought Bread. You may ask yourself questions such as, “Why does my store-bought bread tend to last longer in my pantry than home-baked bread? What causes that?” One of the answers to those questions lies within the ingredients that are used to make both types of bread. Both breads possess similar ingredients, preparation, and baking methods. Also, the taste from each bread is very similar. Although the processes are similar, the shelf-lives of each bread are very different. Also, the cost of home-baked bread is more efficient than making a trip to the store to purchase a loaf of store-bought bread. That is why store-bought bread and home-baked bread are similar in texture and taste, but differ in shelf-life and cost. To find the answer to these questions, a controlled experiment was performed to see which bread decomposed faster. The store-bought bread was bought from a popular nationally chained grocery store, and the home-baked bread was made with a brand named bread machine. The controlled environment consisted of both breads in a room with the same light, temperature, and humidity in the air. The experiment lasted about two weeks and the results were shocking. The home-baked bread spoiled about four days faster than the store-bought bread. The home-baked bread had a very solid texture like toast but more like bread that used for breadcrumbs. There were slight discolorations and signs of mold from the crust......

Online Versus Traditional Education

... Online versus Traditional Education Thomas Brantley COM155 March 02, 2014 Nancy Slack Online versus Traditional Education Dating back to the 1600s, higher education has been a part of society for hundreds of years. Founded in the early 1600s, the oldest higher education institution in America is Harvard University. In these earlier days of higher education, institutions were religious affiliated and directed students more toward spiritual studies. Many important programs created by our government stimulated enrollment through loans and grants. One of the most prominent was the National Defense Education Act of 1958. With the number of changes in higher education, some good and some bad, one thing remains the same from all, the need for change and to evolve. A new development in American education is emerging. This new change is distance education. The internet has greatly helped evolve distance education into what it is today through online learning systems. Many do not see distance education as something of high credibility. However, distance education through online learning systems today has gained great popularity in a society filled with busy individuals who do not seem to have the time to go into a classroom setting day after day. While online college discussion and instruction is different, both online and traditional colleges have a similar structure, assignments and both are regionally and nationally accredited. Although class discussion of a traditional college...

...Home Schooling vs. Public Schooling Jill Norris COM155 October 27, 2012 Dr. Melton Home Schooling vs. Public Schooling The grand cartoonist Al Capps once said, “Any place that anyone can learn something useful from someone with experience is an educational institution.”(Capps) This statement evokes thought of exactly what defines a “school.” Can any place be called a school? Certainly the home can be called a school as there are around 1.5 million children in the United States are homeschooled. Home schooled children are able to practice their religion, can have a different curriculum, and different disciplinary actions, but both can lead to a well educated student. Public schools, even with all of their bad press, are still the most popular way to educate a child (Homeschool Or Public School? 2012) According to, which provides legal analysis of home school laws, someone that is interested in homeschooling their children should follow the law of the state in which they reside. Laws governing home school education vary by state and according to the 10th Amendment of the Constitution the power to regulate all forms of education belong to the states. Homeschooling is included in this protection. The Constitution states that the federal government is not allowed to interfere with or control public or private forms of education.
