Contraception in Public School

In the world today, many may not be aware of the steady growth of the STD, abortion, and pregnancy rate that has reached an all-time high in the United States. Now because of this, high schools and colleges around the country have decided to step up and take action in decreasing this number by providing condoms and other contraceptive to schools. Many types of birth control can now be found in schools across the country. Many people think that providing students with easy access contraception in schools is a good idea in preventing teenage pregnancy.

Many people think that providing students with easy access contraception in schools is a good idea in preventing teenage pregnancy. In today’s fast-pace society it is hard not to be naïve when it comes to adolescents being sexually active. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) by age twenty, ¾ of young adults have had sexual intercourse. By age seven-teen, nearly 60.5% of teenagers have had sex for the first time (CDC). At this point distributing condoms or other contraceptives in schools will not enable students to have sex, but rather prevent teenage pregnancies. In 2010, the CDC stated that more then 365,000 teenagers 15-19 years gave birth in the United States. The bottom line is most teens are going to experiment and have intercourse and half the time they will be too embarrassed or scared to buy condoms at the drug store or go to a sexual health care facility and be put on birth control. By having easy access to contraceptives in schools it is an easy and privet way to prevent young pregnancies when being sexually active.…...

African American Women and Contraceptive Use

...barriers. Henceforth, a group of twenty volunteers will be selected to participate in a health promotion/disease prevention seminar with an emphasis upon condom usage. Audience The focus of this educational program is to investigate current healthcare practices in relation to contraceptive barriers and to inform and educate African American female students of the variables and risk behaviors leading to HIV/AIDs. HIV/AIDs prevention programs are sparse in the university or college campus environment, with their focus usually on teenagers, uneducated black women in poverty with high unemployment, or youth living in low-income neighborhoods (Alleyne, Wodarski, 2009). The little amount of information that is available is restricted to basic information supplied by nonspecific pamphlets in the student health center. For this purpose, a partnership with the public health administrators on campus will allow the investigation of relevant healthcare beliefs and behaviors, and emphasize educational reform in terms of utilizing protective sexual barriers. Objectives Cognitive (Knowledge) * After reading an informational pamphlet on HIV/AIDs, the students will list effective sexual contraceptive barriers * After watching a video on the risk behaviors specific to African American women, the students will identify risk behaviors pertinent to culture and ethnicity. Affective (Attitude) * After watching a video pertaining to African American women as a risk......

Contraceptives: Protecting Sexual Activity or Promoting It?

...Alan Becker English Comp Professor Wayne 19 November 2012 Contraceptives: Protecting Sexual Activity or Promoting it? The debate whether contraceptives should be distributed in public schools has been a long and controversial one. With the steady increase of sexual activity among teenagers, it is crucial for young adults to understand that if they participate in the act they should be protected. We can’t stop teenagers from participating in sexual activity, but we can provide them will tools that will allow them to be safe. Many teenagers are interested in engaging in sexual activity and need to be protected. By the age of nineteen, seven out of ten teens engaged in intercourse (Mosher 47). As teenagers become sexually active, more than half don’t use protection. In a survey hosted by Today.com, it was concluded that 52 percent of the respondents do not use protection when having sex. A sexually active teen who does not use a contraceptive has a 90% chance of becoming pregnant within a year (Abma 21). The Alan Guttmacher Institution stated 1.2 million teens become pregnant each year (Bender 13). The statistics are shocking to many, and they will continue to grow if teenagers don’t practice safe sex. If public schools distributed contraceptives and students took advantage of it, then there would be a decrease in teen pregnancy rates. On average, teenagers lose their virginity at the age of fifteen (Coffey). Because the majority of these sexually active teens are......

Contraceptives

...seriously needs to be addressed, due to these important facts. Contraceptives are not affordable to all citizens of the United States, and without the support from congress there may be downward spiral affect that may cause a lot of issues in the near future. The medical standpoint is based on two topics contraception and abortion. Abortion is an option, not a solution. Abortion far exceeds the cost of normal contraceptives; little do people know is that abortion is an option of contraception. However, not everyone can afford a legal abortion so a second rate doctor with no medical degree may be the only option. Illegal abortion is a major issue in the United States, and can cause many issues including medical abortion related deaths of the mother, child or both. Because of the lack of medical facilities and proper medicine there are other abortion medical complications that may take place if a second rate doctor performs a delivery such as: hepatitis, AIDS and birth defects. The pros of this legislative action include the following statements. A contraceptive is a tool which is used to prevent unwanted pregnancies. In the 1920’s during the great depression, controlling unwanted pregnancies’ was critical, just as it is today with the economic issues which we are currently facing. A contraceptive helps make menstrual periods more regular and also helps to decrease menstrual cramps and acne. Other pros are that contraceptives make you less likely to develop ovarian cysts,......

Contraceptives in High Schools

...CONTRACEPTIVES IN HIGH SCHOOL Are contraceptives and birth control appropriate or inappropriate to offer high school students ? Recently The Department of Education has inaugurated a pilot program called CATCH { Connecting Adolescents To Comprehensive Health} made to curb the alarming rates teen pregnancy here in New York City . Although students throughout the nation has had condoms at their dispense people are now outraged by program which allows the school nurse to administer plan B an emergency contraceptive known as the morning after pill as well as birth control through the form of injection and orally . This can be done without the consent of the parents unless they’ve chosen to opt their children out of the program. People like the executive director Greg Pfundstien, of the Chiaroscuro Foundation, one of the anti- abortion groups feel it’s unethical and doubts that this program will work. Says Jonathan Allen of the Reuters an online news source . Although abortion groups may view the morning after pill as a form of abortion when in essence it is simply a high dosage of the actual birth control pill , which can be taken up to seventy-two hours after intercourse , to halt pregnancy . The morning after pill is a freedom of women’s right’s even though high school students are minor’s they should still have access to contraceptives that are safe to use and are preventive measures......

...Andrade Mr. Jones p.2 November 23, 2013 Pro Prayer In School Over the years, many Americans have discussed the issue about prayer in school. It has been heavily debated since the 1960s, when the Supreme Court decided that prayer in school was unconstitutional and was removed from all public schools. Many people believe that the elimination of prayer in school is beneficial to the students. They say that because religion is private and schools are public it is better that the two should not mix. “To introduce religion in our public schools, builds walls between children who may not have been aware of religious differences before.” (state/church) This, however, its contradicted by many factors that have been seen over the years. Prayers have the power of creating a spiritual atmosphere that helps students drive into values such as humility and discipline. Which is why many people believe that prayers should be allowed in school to develop the maturity of the students. “Banning prayers in school could mean depriving the school children of their freedom of religion.” (prons and cons of prayer in school) According to the First Amendment of the Constitution, all American people have freedom of Andrade 2 religion, press, and expression. Therefore, every children who attends school should have the right to pray at school. Those who are in favor of prayers in school, believe that prayer is an essential part of the school routine. For them, it seems quite irreligious......

...The concept of this essay is to compare and contrast between the Scientific School of Thought and the Behaviorist School of Thought. To better understand this essay two matters must be understood, firstly understanding the meaning of management and secondly, the evolution of management. Management is a collection of different roles undertaken to achieve a job effectively. Another matter that needs to be understood is the evolution of management. Management has evolved from the classical approach to bureaucracy to human relations movement and social psychological schools and finally to modern approach to management. The individuals involved during the evolution of management are Frederick Winslow Taylor, Henri Fayol, Max Weber, and Elton Mayo. F. W. Taylor and Henri Fayol developed classical theories and were concerned with the arrangement and performance of a formal organisation. Max Weber developed a structure of organization known as bureaucracy. Weber developed six characteristics of bureaucracy as followed below: 1. Rules created by management, management will direct the lower levels of the organization by using in a steady and expected approach. 2. Separation of labour, each job is specified with different responsibilities and authority. 3. Hierarchical arrangement, each and every organization has a hierarchy of power. The top level staff gives direction to middle level staff and the middle level staff gives direction to the lower......

...chool administrators are worried about cyberspace usage especially when they visually see on the computer hit lists, bomb threats, character assassinations and defamations. Some school officials have took matters in their own hands by suspending, expelling or even banning students from use of computers. Do school administrators have the right to forbid free expression when the online communication posts are created from a home PC and not school regulated computer equipment? Social-networking websites (MySpace, Facebook, Xanga and Friendster) are extremely popular for instance, "more than 90 million people of all ages are registered users of MySpace – good portion of them teenagers. Now granted, majority of online communications is of clean material of favorite things and dislikes but occasionally there will be damaging statements about teachers or a list of classmates to which they want to hurt. Example, five students in Kansas were arrested in April 2006 for a plot to engage in a murderous spree on the seven-years anniversary of the infamous Columbine shootings. The United States House of Representatives passed The Deleting Online Predators Act of 2006 which consists of public schools and libraries to block student access to commercial social-networking sites such as MySpace.com Some individuals do not favor this bill because it unfairly blocs learning applications and websites necessary for the students to learn and communicate. In addition, there is already an act that...
