A mediados de septiembre del 2010, Emily Harris, vicepresidenta de la división de producción de New Heritage Doll Company, analizaba propuestas de proyectos para las próximas reuniones de presupuestos de capital de la compañía. Se presentaron dos propuestas que podrían beneficiar la innovación y tener un crecimiento en el futuro, pero debido al manejo financiero, solamente se podría aprobar uno de ellos, además de saber que las licencias y divisiones minoristas de la empresa promoverían proyectos concernientes a ellos, por lo tanto ella debe estar preparada para recomendar uno de los proyectos. Al ser una compañía dedicada a la creación de muñecas, se encontró que el 52% de los ingresos por juguetes en los US son por juguetes tradicionales, siendo un 14.1% el perteneciente a las muñecas. Dependiendo de la temporada en la que se encuentren, el nivel de ventas es distinto, resultando mayor en la época de invierno por las celebraciones dadas. Para que los proyectos puedan ser considerados por el comité administrativo, debe de pasar por una descripción, análisis y documentos de propuesta para cada una de las divisiones que componen la compañía, así como también Análisis Financieros en los cuales se brindan pronósticos por parte de los gerentes operativos, en donde se elaboran Flujos de Efectivo, Tasas de Retorno, Payback, VPN, entre otros; dándoles un tipo de riesgo al que pertenecen los proyectos, dependiendo de la probabilidad de riesgo que posean, desde Bajo, Medio hasta Alto, dando descuentos en la producción recibida para la división encargada. For the next simulation, the opposite approach to what was initially thought to be most effective was performed. Given the thought process that had previously been formed about the conservative approach, the second simulation that was run was a high-risk approach.
