Ideal Person Confucius educated people about many things; the essential subject being on how an ideal human being ought to be. According to his philosophies, Confucius stated that an ideal individual possessed good ethical personalities (Werner & David, 2002). He believed that good decent principles were the basis for any human beliefs. He alleged that a superlative person must possess deep respect for devotion and respect his father and leaders. This made Confucius to emphasize more on person’s obedience to their leaders and parents. He also expected an ideal being to reflect for himself, directed by distinct rules of demeanor. Confucius stated that, man must engage himself in some sort of trouble in on order to discover the right things. Li and Ren concepts contain the foundation of Confucianism. Ren is the individual heartedness, integrity, compassion, and the things that give individuals their civilization. Li is a standard of achievement, advantage, order, and the existing channel to individuals’ deeds. There are two main meanings of Li; the initial one being the substantial guide to individual interactions or the convention of appropriate measures that embodies ren. The other concept is the universal social order principle also known as the general life organization (Xinzhong, 2000). However, for ren to survive, Confucius alleged that individuals required a well-organized civilization. A disciplined civilization consisted primarily in the family, with an individual’s perceptive of the five fundamental relations. These five relations are the manner in which things are supposed to be carried out in communal life and civilization. Confucius assumed the family unit as the most significant…...

What Is a Person

...question “what is a person,” is a question that many use to argue points of contention. In cases relating to abortion, capital punishment, or even animal rights, this question is posed to create a line; on opposite sides of this line lay the differences between “persons” and “not persons.” However, it is not practical, nor is it possible to have one unified definition that defends or refutes any of these points. It is important to note that although this question can be answered for individual points, it is not a question that can be answered with the same boundaries for all points collectively. Although a case by case basis can be given, a unified answer lies in the fact that the all points can collectively be answered ethically. As defined by Mary Warren in her argument that abortion is an ethically acceptable action, a person is a being that fulfills five characteristics: consciousness, reasoning, motivation, capacity to communicate, and the concept of self (the ability to see oneself as an entity). She concedes that there are cases in which a person may be considered a person if that being has several of these characteristics, but also states that in these marginal cases, the greatest benefit to society is that personhood is defined to ethically condone the most moral actions. For example, in the case of a mentally retarded human being who most likely has consciousness, motivation, and communication skills, that person should be considered a person as this person has......

Person Perception

...Person Perception - The psychological processes by which we form impressions of other people and formulate judgements about them. Social cognition is the study of how people process social information about other people it includes how we perceive other people and the impressions we form of them. Also how we interpret the causes of their behaviour and the attitudes we have about them. Central Traits are personality characteristics that have a greater impact on the formation of impressions about other people because they correlate highly with other traits allowing more inferences to be drawn about a person Impression formation An active process (or set of processes) through which we seek to know and understand others (Baron &Byrne, 1997, p38) First impression refers to the influence of information that came early rather than late in a social encounter. This is also known as the primacy effect (Asch, S. E (1946) Forming impressions of personality, Journal of Abnormal and Social Psychology, 41, 258-290). Asch found that initial information carries greater weight than subsequent information. An example of such; a person we have just met makes an initial intelligent comment but subsequently says several things that sound not so intelligent. The early intelligent comment would carry a disproportion influence on the impression we have of this person. Physical attractiveness heavily influences first impressions. People immediately assume that handsome and......

Persons with Disabilities

...PERSONS with DISABILITIES Persons with disabilities are faced with challenges that go beyond the average person, When they are sick or have something they are unable to communicate or how about legal issues. These issues require someone to speak up on their behalf, someone who will support them and look out for them in their best interest. Advocacy Advocacy is the act of pleading or arguing in favor of something, such as a cause, idea, or policy; active support (The Free dictionary by Farlex, 2013). Many face problems when it comes to advocating for people with disabilities because of the communication. Many who cannot communicate effectively are misunderstood. Because they cannot express themselves or they are at a level where they cannot explain their needs. This happens in all areas of their life. Then you have those who do not speak and are limited or do not know how to use sign language and those further threatened by not being able to sign or communicate. This causes the needs of those with disabilities to not to be met, affecting their well-being. This follows in their personal life, medical/health, and legal issues as well. The issue of needed advocacy and their needs properly met is a problem (Krahn & Campbell, 2013). Plan recommendation This plan could help, certainly, the issues still would befall but these could aid the situation. Public health awareness requires appropriate data so it is followed and traced. The population monitored to aid in the tracing....

Person Responsibility

...then the goals you set for yourself you have overcome the obstacles and started a foundation for life. This is when you learn how to take an obstacle and turn the obstacle in to a solution for the goal. To overcome obstacle you have to learn how to block everything else going on and provide your full attention to the goal you are trying to achieve. Regardless who you are every person has an emotional side to them. A lot of people have emotional feelings towards something that they strongly believe in, at some points in life you have to learn how to cut all emotional ties off. When doing so this will help you provide your full attention to the solutions to achieve your goal. Now is where you learn your personal responsibility what matters to you as a person. “But personal responsibility also means that when individuals fail to meet expected standards, they do not look around for some factor outside themselves to blame” (Haskins, July 2009, Para.1). The only person that can change anything about you as a person will be yourself. Having flaws are something I consider beneficial to a person. When a person can acknowledge there flaws and learn how to use their flaws and accept them that is the first step to self-realization. As you grow and learn these things about yourself you will learn then push yourself to move forward. For moving and thinking beyond what you can see is when you will start making the unconscious decisions. At this point is when you will achieve some of the......

An Educated Person

...anJason Palmer 12/1/2011 How Jay-Z in AN EDUCATED PERSON What does it take to be a liberally educated person? Is it the amount of intelligence that one has? Is it solely individualism? Normally the stereotype of what an educated person is who has undergone an obligated set of learning experiences through education. So if we were looking at the person that hasn’t traveled a traditional path through education what qualities or what examples are we looking for to be defining this educated person? In “Only Connect” The Goals of Liberal Education are basically broken down into qualities of learning that empowers individuals and the preparedness that deals with complexity, diversity, and change. In this special case we are trying to define a rapper, but not just any rapper we are talking about Jay-Z, a Hip Hop mogul, one of the East Coast raps top acts of the 21st century. So why would we think that a rapper is capable of being an educated person? One of the qualities of what an educated person is in “Only Connect” which states “They can write clearly and persuasively and movingly”. When it comes to being a rapper part of the job is how they write their lyrics and the messages they send or the sound that people are listening to. With Jay-Z’s style in particular you can tell that there is some education in the way he is able to make the music he writes. Having an interest in music from a very young age, Shawn Carter was known by the nickname “Jazzy” in his neighborhood and......

Death in Person

...The idea of death, in reference to a person, in our society is a pretty clear cut thing. A dead person can’t talk. A dead person doesn’t have feelings. A dead person can’t do anything. What if I told you that it is in fact possible for living people to be viewed as if they were dead? Social death is the condition of people not accepted as fully human by wider society. Three examples that come to mind when I think of this definition are slaves in the south, the jews during the holocaust and normal people around us that don’t have friends. Slaves were never looked at as fully human. They were looked at as property that could be used as the master pleased. Hard evidence has found that slavery in america was present since 1619, when hungry Dutch sailors traded African slaves for food and supplies. Although, Britain wasn’t to keen on using African slaves in their colonies at the time more and more slaves made their way to America. Slavey ended up be coming the foundation on which America was built. Slave masters did many things to slaves that not only destroyed the sprit of the slaves but dehumanized them also. The transition from having indentured servants to mainly using black slaves made it apparently to anyone who a slave was or wasn’t. It also became law that freed slaves have a form indicating they were in fact free. Slaves were treated as cattle. Stripped naked and paraded in front of audiences so they could be bid on. They were beaten and constantly abused. Their identity......

A Successful Person

...NAME: ADE AJOSE COURSE: ENGLISH COMPOSITION 1 INSTRUCTOR: DR JACOB SIZI DATE: 02-09-2014 A SUCCESSFUL PERSON What really is success? What makes an individual successful? According to Merriam-Webster mini Dictionary, success is defined as, “the act of achieving something good that you have been trying to do, or something that has a god result or is very popular. The word ‘success’ originated in the mid-16th century from Latin ‘successus’ , from the verb ‘succedere’. The society at large thinks success is all about material things such as how expensive one’s car is, how large one’s house is or one’s social status in the society and financial freedom. However, success does not basically deal with material goods and properties, but is tied to broader concepts such as happiness, overcoming hardship and achieving certain goals. The true indicator of success is not determined by what an individual accomplishes but rather how the individual feels after an accomplishment. In other words, in order for one to be seen as successful, he or she must be happy or contented. For instance, if I look back at my life since I was born till this moment and I feel satisfied and happy with my current situation, I would consider myself a success. However, if I look back and I feel I could have done better and feel disappointed, I would not consider myself to be a success. Hence, success is directly proportional to happiness. Also,...

What Is a Person?

...Anthony Cimini Paper 1 2-23-14 What is a Person? What is a person? What are the properties that make up a person? What makes a person different that any other animal on planet earth? These are questions that philosophers have debated over for years. One common characteristic that philosophers have agreed upon is a person has the moral right of self- determination. This trait gives people inalienable rights. They are to be treated with more respect and dignity than one would give to a pet or a piece of property. But this is not the only trait that makes up a person. According to a philosopher named Dr. Philosophicus Veritas, in order for something to be considered a person it must possess the properties of intelligence and self-awareness. I would agree with this definition of a person, but I do not believe it is complete. I would add the properties of phenomenal consciousness and free will to the list. These properties are essential in order to be considered a human. To begin with, Dr. Veritas and I agree that the first property of intelligence is a vital piece of being a person. Intelligence is defined as the ability to learn and adapt to one’s environment and experiences on a daily basis. Without this property one could not be considered a human because I would not be doing anything morally wrong if I were to lock a creature without intelligence in my basement and treat it as a pet. Without intelligence the creature would not know that the environment of......

Bigger Person

...Bigger Person Mahatma Gandhi’s quote, “First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win,” demonstrates how people are quick to judge and how being the bigger person pays off. Being the bigger person results in a quicker solution than arguing about the topic. Being the bigger person additionally enables the person to feel good about themselves. They can view themselves as more mature and strong-minded. Gandhi is teaching his audience how to win a fight against ignorant people through this quote. “First they ignore you,” is referring to the beginning of the argument when people judge you, and do not take you seriously. Therefore, they ignore you. Ignoring the person who is talking does not do anything, but make the person being ignored feel disrespected. An example of this in life would be a professor. If students are talking while the professor is speaking it is perceived as very disrespectful. Because the students are talking, they are ignoring the opportunity to learn from the professor. Racism could be another real-life example of this idea. For example, if in a group of people there is only one person of a different race, this person may not be heard for what he or she has to offer. That is not justified because all people should be treated equally. Another example of discrimination could be if a person is judged as not as intelligent as the people surrounding them. Maybe that person is just quiet and afraid to speak. The group could......

Bar Persons

...Bar Persons Bar persons must have flexible hours and must be willing to work a fast paced job that includes long hours on their feet. The bar staff is mainly employed to serve drinks, so they should be proficient at mixing as well as serving drinks and food. Bar persons are expected to train in different parts of the restaurant so they can help out if necessary. Different tasks for them include: serving drinks and food, washing dishes, entertaining customers, organizing and helping with events, and stocking drinks or food. As of the beginning of October, the average salary for a bar person in the United States is $42,000. This salary differs internationally. Bar persons need instruction on state and local laws and regulations concerning the sale of alcohol, cocktail recipes, proper attire and conduct, and stocking a bar. It is very important that any bar person receives their TiPs certification, and passes. Other educational background that a bar person can receive, that is not necessary includes education in customer service, sales and marketing, administration and management, English language, and psychology. Bar person responsibilities include the following: checking IDs to ensure they are serving those of age, making sure to maintain a safe environment, make sure everything is sanitary, keep station clean and organized, know the menu and drink menu items and their prices, and know what each drink contains. Person of the Year

...Mark Zuckerberg Mark Zuckerberg When I think of a person that I find inspiring and a representation of my generation, I think of Mark Zuckerberg. Mark Zuckerberg is the CEO of Facebook, which he founded in 2004. Facebook is a social utility that helps people communicate more efficiently with their friends, families, and coworkers. Mark is responsible for setting the overall direction and product strategy for the company. He leads the design of Facebook’s service and development of its core technology and infrastructure (Executive Bios). Seven years ago, in 2004, when Zuckerberg was a 19 year old sophomore at Harvard, he started a web service from his dorm. It was called Thefacebook.com, and it was billed as “an online directory that connects people through social networks at colleges.” Last year, Facebook, now minus the the – added its 550 millionth member. One out of every dozen people on the planet has a Facebook account. They speak 75 languages and collectively lavish more than 700 billion minutes on Facebook every month (Grossman, 2010). Destination On earlier social networks like Friendstar and MySpace, identity was malleable and playful, but Facebook was and is different. “Were trying to map out what exists in the world,” he says. “In the world, there’s trust. I think as humans we fundamentally parse the world through the people and relationships we have around us. So at its core, what where trying to do is map out all those trust......

Optimistic Person

...kissing in a passionate embrace. The second sculpture “LOVE” was created by the artist Robert Indiana, and it shows the four letters, L-O-V-E, stacked in a square. “The Kiss” either implies that people can have love for just a moment in time, or that it is showing how two people express their love for one another. In this case, it was be implying love more than lust, but the depiction is left to the viewer. On the other hand, “LOVE” suggests that love can mean a number of things depending on the viewer. The artist seems to have a more broad view of love, whereas Rodin depicts a specific moment. These two artists are showing their arguments on the subject of love. “The Kiss”, to the viewer, looks like it depicts lust more than love if a person looks at it one way. However, he may be showing that some people could consider lust to be love, or he could be showing how two people show their love for one another by passionately embracing and touching. This implies that love can be just as real sensually as it can be emotionally. The two people are naked, which makes it look like more than a kiss. It is showing love in the heat of the moment, not over time. When someone sees it he may think of his significant other, but he may remember a time when he was in a passionate embrace, like the one shown, with just his old fling. The sculptor implies that love in the moment is sculpture worthy no matter who the two people are. The viewers cannot see the statue’s face; therefore they......

Displaced Person

...with the local people when they were on a foreign assignment in for example Germany. One of the consequences of this was that several children were born having soldiers as fathers and a local woman from the given place as mother. The child were in most cases born long after the soldier had left the given town or village. The short story D.P. by Kurt Vonnegut, JR is showing us this problem through a telling about a young black boy named Joe, searching for his identity. The title D.P. stands for “Displaced Person” and this is exactly how Joe feels. At the time the story takes place black people were being discriminated, and especially in Europe. This meant that there were not many black people in Germany. The story shows us an image of a youg black boy, Joe, who was raised by nuns in a small German village. He lives on an orphanage with several other children. He was named Karl Heinz by the nuns but the townspeople dubbed him Joe Louis. He has never seen another black person in his life. He do not know who he is, who his mother is or who his father is. Therefore, when he finds out that there are black people among the American Soldiers passing through town he is determined to find his real father – his identity. He finds out about the soldiers during a walk with the other children. Every day they walk to town getting fresh air, and every day the town people teas them, yelling different things at the children. One day the village carpenter yells that Joe´s father is in town,......

The Human Person

...The Dignity of the Human Person The “human person” is a philosophy of Louis Janssens from Vatican II, basically says that the human person is made in the image of God and is the unity of body and soul and that the person is human and living because of the soul. One of Janssen’s points was that all persons are utterly original but fundamentally equal. Daniel Sulmasy said that there are two types of dignity: intrinsic and attributed. He said that intrinsic is the kind people have simply because they are members of the human family; it is intrinsic to being human. Attributed dignity is the value or worth one attributes to others or to oneself. It is based on ones power, prestige, function, productivity, and degree of control. I believe that intrinsic dignity is the element that makes all human persons’ fundamentally equal and attributed dignity that makes them unique and the role of the health care provider is not to protect the dignity of the patient, but to respect the dignity of the patient as well as all human persons. Intrinsic dignity is not earned, compromised, increased or decreased by one's conduct or the conduct of others. This also means that no disease, disability, or suffering, of any kind, can reduce or compromise our intrinsic dignity, regardless of the quality of life. Intrinsic dignity remains equal in all humans from their beginning to their death and beyond. People in the severest stages of illness, who may have lost all measurable autonomy,......

The Influential Person

...Most of us would say that the person who made a big influence to them was their mother or their father .Some of us would say that their friends were the ones who influenced them, especially those people that have the same age like me. Someone might consider the influence one has and how the environment impacts his or her personality. Since when I was young, I used to be with my relatives so I can’t say that my mother or even my father, where my influence to be who I am since I don’t grow up on them . The person who made a big influence to me is my auntie. She was the one who raised me and took care of me since birth. Her name is Gloria and she is the older sister of my mother. Ever since I was a kid, she and my other aunts were the ones who took care of me because my mother is working abroad particularly on a cruise ship .My auntie is very much hands on towards me and she makes sure that I have the things that I need rather than what I want .She’ has time for me even if she’s not my mother and supported me to the things that I wanted .She has helped me many ways; she pushes me to be the best and she possesses good qualities that I try to obtain. She has taught me that to constant hard work, I will never fail. Even though, at times I get annoyed with her always pushing me, I know that she is just doing it because she wants the best for me. And so far, I have succeeded every time I have listened to her. At times I think the advice she is giving me is wrong, but I still......
