Motivation and Job Satisfaction

Introduction

This paper is going to look at motivation in corporations, and its necessity to company managers within organizations. To begin with, it is essential to note that employee motivation is one of the most essential aspects that every manager within an organization should address and look at. Staff motivation, as it will be seen in this paper from a detailed perspective, is of great necessity to company managers because it is one of the strongest agents that the corporation banks on to achieve its goals and objectives. At the same time, motivation is necessary in order to develop the employees’ capabilities, skill, expertise, experience and intellectual capital at large (Deci, 1971).

This is only achievable if the employees are highly motivated by the corporation managers and the concerned parties such as the human resource department. This is one of the areas that this paper will critically address. Employees’ satisfaction is one of the most essential elements and propellers of motivation at work. This paper will look at job satisfaction and its relation to employee motivation from a critical perspective (Rugman, 2002). In order to achieve this, several models will be analyzed and looked at, considering that they are some of the factors that will assist in understanding employees’ motivation and job satisfaction. The aim of this paper, therefore, is to analyze the general applicability of various management models and how they affect job motivation, through satisfaction (Kotler & Armstrong, 2006).

There is a positive correlation between motivation and job satisfaction. Motivation acts as the main drive towards achievement of a given goal. Companies which reward employees may foster productivity (Robinson, 2000). Employees…...

...Job Satisfaction It is said that human is the most important resource for any improvements. In the same way, employees have the most important influence on company’s success, and the key to make employees do their best to the company is when they feel satisfy with their job. It also “represents one of the most complex areas facing today’s managers when it comes to managing their employees” (Aziri 2011). That is because if the workers have a satisfaction with any works they are doing, they will do their work effectively and have an enthusiasm for their work. Design/methodology/approach – This paper draws on a single organization case study across seven stores, and uses a survey, archival documents, open-ended questions and researcher interaction with employees and managers. Findings – The results provide some support for the complementary nature of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation was positively associated with pay and job satisfactions, whereas extrinsic motivation was negatively associated with job satisfaction, and not associated with pay satisfaction. The qualitative insights indicate that pay fairness is important, and those who perceived pay was not fair generally made comparisons with others or felt that pay did not reflect their effort.
