McClusky’s Theory of Margin proves even though a person has reached age maturity, there is still room for learning. The benefits of this theory can be used as a simple guidance tool on a daily basis. Thus the tool is not to be taken as a crystal ball, as this will not tell you how you would learn, however it will allow to put in perspective what areas we would need to focus on to get a gratifying outcome. The benefits can be measured with a simple formula L/P=M. With this method we can overcome the struggles that an adult learner can encounter. This tool can be used in a variety of ways; in this paper we will apply this to our daily life. We can begin by dissecting this method so we can understand how to then apply it.
Many would say that “you can’t teach old dog new tricks,” with the McClusky’s Theory of Margin, that statement can clearly be debunked. The theories without a doubt show that not only can adults learn new information it also demonstrates how one can establish a harmony throughout the adult learning process. Why an adult would choose to further their knowledge? There can be different stages in one’s life that could prompt this, personal development, job enhancement, complete educational gap, or just joining the job market. Whatever the reason may, be there are methods to accomplishing this successfully. Research has shown one can control our outcome by creating a balance with (L) load, consisting of life’s requirements (such as family, work, and community responsibilities), (P) power allows one to deal with the load. “Margin in life” is the ratio of both load and power. (McClusky, 1970)
As adults we have to adjust to multiple responsibilities and demands on a daily basis. The way that I find the margin of power needed to overcome load and be successful in the Criminal Justice Administration Program begins with my self evaluation. I am a single parent…...

Comparative Phylogeography of Freshwater Habitats in Southern Australia: Using Palaeodrainage Reconstructions to Investigate Population Structure and Historic Population Connectivity

COI sequences were analysed and aligned in Geneious 5.4.4 (Drummond et al. 2011) using a Geneious Alignment. Alignments were confirmed by eye, low quality regions at the end of each sequence were trimmed and ambiguous bases replaced with Ns. To broaden the number and range of samples used the Paratya dataset was combined with 32 COI haplotypes from 71 locations across Victoria and south east South Australia 16 downloaded off GenBank from the PhD thesis by McCluskey (2007) (Appendix 3) and the outgroup used to root trees was a Paratya howensis sequence (McClusky 2007). The Austrochiltonia data set was combined with 61 COI sequences from 23 locations from the central and Port Phillip areas of Victoria and south east of South Australia downloaded off GenBank from King and Leys (2011) (Appendix 4). Of these sequences 23 were found to belong to A. subtenuis and 6 to the closely related and morphologically similar A. australis. The outgroup used to root trees was a Hyalella azteca sequence from GenBank (Baird et al. 2011). The appropriate model of evolution for each alignment was determined using jModelTest 0.1 (Posada 2008), using the hierarchical likelihood ratio test (hLRT) and Akaike Information Criterion (AIC). Even Scriptures say, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.” (Proverbs.17:22) Some people say that after God created the world, He made man and woman. Then to keep the whole thing from collapsing, He invented humor. Humor is so powerful it can diffuse business tensions. This is a classic: when Eugene Cafiero was president of the Chrysler Corporation, he went to England to resolve an intense conflict between management and members of the union at a Chrysler plant. As Cafiero entered the plant, a man confronted him and loudly declared, “I’m Eddie McClusky and I’m a Communist.” Cafiero held tight his hand and replied, “I’m Eugene Cafiero, and I’m a Presbyterian.” Laughter followed, and it cooled off this confrontation. When a situation is potentially explosive, humor can diffuse it. Don’t you just love a cheerful person? I do. When I come into the presence of anyone who is so serious he or she looks like a raisin, I can immediately feel the tension, and I begin to expect that the encounter and the conversation will be challenging. McClusky led his 37 bombers in an incredible assault on the Japanese fleet that singlehandedly turned the tide of the Pacific War. Within minutes, the three Japanese carriers had been sunk and the fourth was found and destroyed mere hours later. Nagumo’s entire First Air Fleet had been decimated. With the momentum of victories at Guadalcanal, Nimitz began employ a strategy known as island hopping to continue his offensive. Island hopping was the strategy of choosing small, less heavily fortified islands to capture while isolating and avoiding main Japanese bases. Research has shown individuals with high AS tend to employ threat avoidant decision making strategies in an effort to minimize exposure to heightened physiological stimulation (Wilson & Hayward, 2006). For example, studies suggest that individuals with high AS are less likely to engage in physical exercise (Moshier et al., 2014; McWilliams & Asmundson, 2001) or respond to an aggressive attack with aggression (Broman-Fulks, Berman & McClusky, 2007). However, relatively little is known regarding the relation between AS and risk-taking. Given that risk-taking behaviors often generate increased physiological arousal, it is possible that individuals with high AS may be motivated to minimize risk engagement. To date, only one study has directly examined the relation between AS and risktaking.
