Others, such as me, may argue that it is an accomplishment and the benefits from acquiring a degree are worth the efforts and hard work. With the current national unemployment rate at 9.7% (US Department of Labor, Feb 2010) and steadily rising, it seems improbable that finding that “ideal” job is likely. During these tough economic times, I find myself with a bachelor’s degree at a low paying job with a child to take care of. It is because of this situation that I have chosen to pursue a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) degree with an emphasis in Accounting; receiving higher education could be the answer to my problem. According to the job outlook by education 2006-16 (Occupational Outlook Quarterly), increased earnings and lower rates of unemployment are trends associated with additional levels of education (Liming & Wolf, 2008). After taking the Jungian 16-Type Personality Self-Assessment test, scoring ISTJ, I found that my results support my decision to pursue my MBA with an emphasis in Accounting. A person scoring ISTJ are found to be organized, compulsive, private, trustworthy, and practical people. They buy clothes all summer long searching for that right outfit for the first day. You could hear the many conversations between the adults, who is wearing what and how cute their little one are. I came to realize quickly that this event caused more excitement for them than for the kids. I remember my first day like it was yesterday and I can’t relate to the excitement that many parents have today. It was a normal day in Barbados. Sunrise was very beautiful, as it rides just beyond the cliff of the sea. A bright orange just five minutes away. It seems you can just reach out and touch the fullness of the sun. As I gazed outside my window, the trees were still and bubbles of dew slowly flow down the side of the leaves. In a nearby yard I heard a rooster singing to the top of his lungs. Everything seems in place with a soft carpet of dew covering our lawn like a freshly carpeted house untouched and perfect to the eye.
