My Home: Disturbed

...My Home: Disturbed The smell of flesh was seeping out from under the front door when I arrived home with a friend at 2:00 AM that night, a year ago this week. Minnie was dead and I knew who killed her right away. Her little body from her front legs to her back legs was torn wide open. She was nearly severed in half. The top of her head had been chewed all the way to her skull. The clean, white slate of bone was glistening from across the room. Long brush strokes of deep red covered the surface of the hard wood floors. Bits and pieces of Minnie decorated the walls and the white doors along the hallway like little trinkets. Bookshelves full of novels with their spines exposed were splattered with body fluids and evidence of a life that had painfully ended. Whatever occurred in my home was violent, brutal, and downright disturbing. Zoe was a pit-bull mix I had rescued six years earlier. She and Minnie, a Jack Russell Terrier, had been living together since I rescued Zoe. Zoe was not an aggressive dog and I raised her from the time she was a little, lanky, awkward puppy. I took her to work with me at the bar often and everyone knew and loved her there. Those who knew Zoe were shocked to hear that she had brutally killed Minnie. I stood next to Minnie’s body thanking the heavens that I was high as a kite. I would not have been able to stomach the scene if I were sober. My friend stood behind me in shock and confused by my reaction. I did not cry, scream, or......

Is My House My Home?

...Goguen 1 Evangeline Goguen Professor Laurie Cooper English 1041 15 October 2013 Is My House My Home? For as long as I can remember I’ve lived in the same 100 year old house. It was the place where I experienced so many firsts: my first play date, my first sleepover, my first kiss, and my first heartbreak. I never thought I’d be excited to leave, but as the years passed, that house didn’t feel like home anymore. The house sat on 5 acres of land; I had a view of the field in the backyard from my bedroom window. I would sit and stare at the long grass, as the wind would make it dance. The front flowerbeds were always weeded no matter how much it hurt my mother’s back. The pain was worth it to see the vibrant colors of spring’s first bloom. In the backyard, an old mice-infested barn that sat there uselessly was converted into a cottage. It was like a home away from home. Moving on to the inside of the house, through that annoying door that never closed properly, there was the kitchen. The yellow walls made the place seem cheerful and the cherry wood cabinets added some warmth. There was no dinning room; there was simply an eat-in kitchen. Many dinners, few that were satisfying, have been served on that glass top table. On the other side of the kitchen, two rocking chairs facing each other were placed beside the window. We were a family of three so it was a race to see who would have to pull up an extra chair. I always lost since I was the child. We had countless......

My Job Role

...My Job Role My main responsibilities as a home manager are: Care: Initially before a resident is admitted into my home I carry out a needs assessment to ensure the home can meet the needs of the resident, this involves me going to meet them at the address where they are residing or a place of their choice. The home which I manage is a home for residents with different types of dementia and there are different stages, residents that have the onset of dementia are able to answer most questions however there are also residents in which their dementia is quite advanced and they may not have the ability to answer as they may not understand the questions being asked, in this and most cases there are other family members and social workers involved in the assessment process. Working in partnership can have a positive influence on the assessment process, and the benefit of working in partnership is that others can make an effective contribution to the assessment. Working in partnership brings a range of professional perspectives, knowledge and skills to the assessment process. Once the resident comes to my home a care plan is completed using information gained from the assessment and from the resident themselves. On admission the wishes of residents with regards to the way they live their life are obtained. This should be from the resident themselves, if they are able to do so, or from family or other persons that know them well. A detailed history of the resident’s life should......

My Home Scheme

...Malaysia My First Home Scheme (Skim Rumah Pertamaku)   The “Skim Rumah Pertamaku” or My First Home Scheme was first announced in the 2011 Budget by the Malaysian Government. This is one of the good initiatives taken by the government to help young adults earning RM5,000 per month or less to get 100% financing from Banks to purchase their first home. If you have just got yourself a job which pays RM2,800 and assuming if you save 20% of your salary per month, only by the third year, you will have RM20,160 to pay for the down payment for a property worth RM200,000. (Forget about annual increment and let’s just assume your pay is stagnant for three years) Ask yourself these two questions: 1. Are you able to set aside 20% of your salary monthly, dedicatedly? 2. Would the property that you wish to purchase be worth the same three years down the road? For many young working adults, the answer to the above question is no. A bank staff we interviewed related the story in 2007 when she started working, a decent condominium in Petaling Jaya was about RM250,000. After saving RM25,000 by the third year, that same property no longer cost RM250,000. At that point, she said she would never have saved enough to purchase her first home unless her salary grew exponentially to keep pace with the inflation of house prices. Lucky for her, by her 3rd year, it did. But how many young adults can expect their salaries to grow exponentially? This is especially hard to imagine for those who just...

My Home State Fruit

...My Home State Fruit Grown deep down in the south lives the most delicious and incredibly nutritious fruit, the Georgia peach. The peach was originally grown in China. Now, Georgia is home to a peach so rich in antioxidants and full of vitamins. The first peaches were planted in Georgia during the eighteenth century and the industry has flourished ever since. This home grown fruit happens to be the best in all the country. There is no other like it. Other drupe fruit are taste great, yet none of them live up to the high standards of the Georgia peach. Down in Georgia, where I was born and raised, is where I was first introduced to the infamous Georgia peach. Peaches were grown nearly everywhere in Georgia; in fact, there were a few peach trees in my backyard. If there was not any trees nearby, you could easily buy them in stores or from a vendor on the side of one of the country roads. On hot summer days after my brother and I would play, a peach was always my snack of choice. I would hop off the swing set and jog down the sandy pathway until I came upon the tall, skinny round trunk of the tree. The peaches were a little further up than I could reach; therefore I would stretch on my tip toes and examine branch by branch until I saw the mother load of all peaches. I would feel through the bright luscious leaves until found just the right peach. When I would bite into its firm yet gentle flesh, sweet juices would drip down my face. The country summer breeze mixed with the......

...Improving Organizational Performance at AirDevils Linking job satisfaction and organization productivity directly to an employee’s psychological state within the workplace is possible using theory of motivation. Rectifying psychological causes such as dissatisfaction motivate employees to perform tasks well, thus leading to productive behavior. Rectifying psychological factors can remove workplace stressors and relieve issues employees face in the workplace. AirDevils is a company full of dissatisfied and stressed employees. Although they may seem linked, the cause for dissatisfaction is not the cause for stress or vice versa as two specific groups make up the company. The performers make up one group and the supporting crewmembers make up the other. Dissatisfied performers create a downward spiral in productivity, and stressed crewmembers are unavailable or missing from work. The job characteristics theory of motivation is applicable to both groups to create improved job satisfaction and organizational productive by lowering stress. Improving the performers behavior by incorporating new stunts in routines can create a better aerial performance. In turn, AirDevils may begin to win awards in competition with the new routine, leading to improved job satisfaction. Some crewmembers are also aspiring performers, but too many are not able to keep pace because of injury and job stress. To reduce dissatisfaction and stressors, AirDevils must alleviate problems between performers......

Reflections About My Job

...have are very important to my job and my coursework. There are so many different ways that I can present myself, especially in my job environment. Since I am trying to move up in my job, it really makes a difference how I present myself. It can also make a difference on how I can present to my classmates as well. I am always ready for a challenge, especially when it comes to my job. I knew from the start what I wanted to write my paper about. My job may not be interesting or sound fun to some people, but every day brings a new challenge. Some people may not be able to handle being on the phone 10 hours a day, but I really love it. The main goal of my paper was to make it easy to understand. I didn’t want the paper to be too long or too short. I knew I would have to keep the audience entertained , but I knew if it was too long they might get bored and if it was too short, I might not have had enough information for them to understand. I should always think about different ways to present myself, since I am getting ready to apply for a higher position at my current job. I am going for my interview in two weeks and have to explain why I am the person qualified for the job and why I want the job. PART B The three types of information I would put on a social media website to present myself in a professional manner would be: 1.) Experience: In this part, I would put some of my jobs I had in the past, and what my responsibilities were at those jobs. * Assistant......

My Best Job

...lucky enough to find such a restaurant. After serving here at Vescio’s Italian Restaurant for over two years this is my testimonial as to why serving at a family run restaurant is the best job experience I have ever had and why you as current or prospective servers should take into account such a fantastic experience. Frank T. Vescio opened Vescio’s Italian Restaurant in 1956. He passed away in 1987 but the restaurant has lived on by his son Frank C. Vescio. Vescio’s has been serving authentic Italian cooking and tradition ever since. My first experience with Vescio’s was the Interview. The interview process is less rigorous than I have ever experienced, especially taking into account the chain restaurants I have worked at; Applebee’s and Panera Bread. I went into Vescio’s Italian Restaurant on a Wednesday afternoon midsummer. The girl I was dating at the time worked at the restaurant for about a month when she had mentioned that her boyfriend was in need of a job and that he was capable of doing anything. Donna G. the current server manager was the interviewer. She is an older woman that has been working at the restaurant for over 40 years, she reminded me of my grandmother, extremely young at heart and always willing to learn from the younger generation of servers. After a few minutes of speaking with her I had the job. For Applebee’s and Panera Bread my hand hurt after the hours of paperwork that had to be filled out. I started working only a few days later and I did...
