Nutrition and Fitness Paper
To remain healthy it is imperative that I consume a well balanced diet, and incorporate physical activity into my current lifestyle. Through assessing my current level of fitness and nutritional status, I identified new habits that could assist me in becoming healthier. By integrating these new habits into my current lifestyle, I will be able to maintain a healthy body weight, and furthermore improve my general health. Obesity is a leading health concern in the United States, placing individuals at risk to other serious diseases. Discussing some of these associated risks emphasizes the importance of personal nutrition and fitness.
Personal Fitness and Nutritional Habits
I believe I am an active individual and eat healthy most of the time but recognize that there is always room for improvement. My lifestyle both personal and professional is hectic not leaving me much free personal time. Therefore, it is imperative that I develop new habits to improve my current fitness level and nutritional status. I try to work out a couple of times a week at a local gym but find that I often skip scheduled sessions because of other commitments. Concerning nutritional habits, I am guilty of missing breakfast and lunch resulting in me consuming junk foods until dinner in the evening. My diet at this time is lacking the recommended amounts of dietary fiber, and I need to modify my intake of dietary fat.
Health Risks Associated with Obesity

...Nutrition and Fitness Adrienne Ferrara SCI 100 December 3, 2012 Laura Peters Nutrition and Fitness Nutrition and physical exercise are essential to living a healthy lifestyle. Each is valuable but together provide the most benefits. Consuming the right amount of nutrients can improve your physical performance, and exercise can help our bodies to use these nutrients resourcefully. This paper will discuss my current fitness and nutritional habits, explain the dangers of obesity, and identify new fitness and nutritional habits that I can incorporate into my lifestyle. I would consider my current fitness to be above average. Ever since I was in grade school I’ve always participated in a team sport and as I grew older, I’ve made a continuous effort to exercise 4 to 5 times a week. As for my eating habits, I don’t always eat as well as I should, but I am putting in more effort now than ever before to make better nutritious decisions. Obesity is the result of an excessive high amount of body fat. BMI (Body Mass Index) does not directly measure body fat but relates with the amount of body fat. When determining obesity, it is vital to consider fat distribution throughout the body, and body fat deposits. Obesity is a complex health issue because there are many different factors that play a part in obesity (Donatelle, "Chapter 9, Managing Your Weight, Overweight or Obese?," 2010). Obese people have a higher chance of developing gallstones, high blood pressure, type 2......

...Nutrition and Fitness Veronica L. Powell University of Phoenix SCI/100 Terry Gatchell April 20, 2010 Nutrition and Fitness In July 1996 I was at Fort Jackson, South Carolina entering Basic Training for the United States Army. The training was rigorous to say the least. Every morning we were up at 0500 (military time) to do physical training (PT), which involved running two or three miles, doing sit-ups, push-ups, and side straddle hops (jumping jacks). The Army gave three basic meals a day: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Although we were allowed a variety of meats, starches, and vegetables to choose from, these meals provided the daily nutritional value recommended for the human body and served using the correct portion size. Prior to going to the military I personally had no idea about nutrition and fitness and how it was important to the human body. Upon examining nutrition and fitness, the focus of this paper will be my current fitness and nutritional habits, health risks associated with obesity, identify and describe three new fitness habits, identify and describe three new nutritional habits, find how new habits promote healthy weight, and how new habits benefit my health. Current Nutritional and Fitness Habits During the past couple of years my nutritional and fitness habits have changed dramatically. ...is a result of a person’s environment, lifestyle and eating habits and these are all within one’s control. At some point in life we all have the ability to control our destiny and even if raised in an obese environment the time comes where as individuals we can change our habits and improve our physical health by making better choices. Yes, sometimes genetics can overpower our efforts and in that sense obesity may be a disease. 2) How can we increase the fitness level of the U.S. population? We can increase the fitness level of the U.S. population in many ways and some little steps could take us a long way. One way is to eliminate soda machines and instead make available vending machines for water and juices. We can look at restricting the food options offered at many fast food restaurants. Why does fast food have to equal unhealthy food? Couldn’t there be a requirement that all restaurants offer a certain percentage of choices that are healthier and lower in calories. Also, employers could help increase the fitness level of the U.S. population by offering discounted membership to health clubs or simply having walking groups that break each day for a brisk walk. This will energize people and encourage them to exercise even if they really don’t want to. Possibly allowing employees to start or end work a half hour earlier two or three days a week if the employee is actively using the health club membership....

As for my current fitness and nutritional habits, they have suffered in the past six to nine months. My health and wellness has been a roller coaster for many years. I have been eating on the go, never working-out and essentially doing whatever was quick, easy, and convenient. I have had some personal life changes which have made all this change in the past month or so. I have known I’ve had high blood pressure for over 20 years as it is hereditary in my family. Most recently I have had spells where I would almost pass out, dizzy and become very light headed. After visiting the Doctor he recommended performing a stress test and EKG which showed at some point I had had a mini-stroke. I feel this was a wakeup call to get my life back on track and to stay on track for the duration of my life. My wife and I have begun to plan out my weekly meals with the consultation of a certified trainer and we have been......

...Anthony Cortez KIN 170 5/17/16 Final Nutrition is a very key component in your health and fitness program for many reasons. Nutrition can help you by giving you energy throughout your day as long as you are eating the right food. If you do not eat healthy then you will not be healthy no matter how much you work out. If you continue to eat poor food then you will not see any results at all. No matter how hard it is you have to stick to a daily regiment and know how much calorie intake you should be taking in order for you to have a fit body. Starting your day off with a good breakfast can help your metabolism speed up and it is the best time to go for a run so you can get the metabolism working even faster. It is important to also take supplements such as vitamins because if you are trying to eat healthy and train hard then you will begin to lose some foods that are necessary for your body such as protein. Some people try to cut out protein to lose weight quicker but your body needs protein to strengthen itself and recover and if you aren’t going to do this then this is where vitamins come in and can help your body. Also another good thing to take is fish oil because it helps your metabolism. Nutrition is a very big thing if you are trying to get the desired body you want and since summer is around the corner and you want to get that summer body faster than nutrition is going to be the biggest thing. I believe that nutrition has everything to do with weight loss or......

...Nutrition and Fitness During the past 2 ½ months the physical activity level has been none and eating habits have been anything but nutritional. Having shoulder surgery has put a stop to all activities that caused any discomfort to the shoulder area, per doctor’s guidance. Eating habits was anything that was easy to access out of a bag or anything chocolate. This week I have been given the green light to increase physical activity and the pain is gone upon walking longer distances. This allows more time to go for walks and possible use of the elliptical equipment that is sitting in another room collecting dust. I have gained several pounds during these sedentary months and need to lose the extra weight. The weight gain has not put me in the obesity category of having “excessively high amount of body fat” (Donatelle, 2010), that could lead to high blood pressure, higher cholesterol or low self esteem. What has been experienced is the inability to participate in activities or unwillingness to socialize due to weight gain. There has been no attention paid to eating habits with being unable to fully cook a meal with my left hand and no assistance in the kitchen the meals have been take out or a meal in the bag that can be micro waved. All of these meals are high in sodium and cholesterol clogging ingredients. This is changing this week and here is how I proceed to et healthier and increase the level of exercise. I have been given the go ahead to start using my right arm......

...Nutrition and Fitness Lee Morgan SCI/100 April, 30 2012 Laura Ross Nutrition and Fitness Being more health conscious as of late, the ability to make better decisions as it pertains to food intake is becoming more repetitious. A healthy lifestyle is now part of the subconscious mind; eating less junk and more fruit, counting calories instead of counting the minutes to the next meal. Things were not always this way. Before marriage, visits to fast food restaurants were frequent; however, there was not much change afterwards. An individual who is obese much like myself, needs to have a revelation to change their lifestyle. Fortunately, the birth of my son was enough to change previous bad habits. Unfortunately, majority of individuals suffering from obesity experience a different form of revelation that involves a doctor, hospital or worse, a trip to the emergency room. The decision to change one’s lifestyle comes at a cost. Change is inevitable whether it is voluntary or involuntary; however, it is not easy. When an individual is accustomed to eating a certain way, the thought of change can be enough to discourage one to move forward with the process. Personally, the idea of measuring cereal and milk for breakfast seemed unnecessary and tasking. Not to mention lunch, snacks and dinner. What real steak fits in the palm of the hand? In the beginning it was rough; however, when one evaluates how good they feel, they will come to the conclusion, change is good. Now that......
