...Executive Summary Generation Y (Millenials); the second largest generation to inhabit our planet, is the most environmentally aware generation to date, yet they are also the most recklessly damaging force that our environment has ever faced. This report aims to (1) illustrate how this generation has been impacting our planet, (2) evaluate the educational system’s sustainability teachings, (3) give insight into the minds of Generation Y, and (4) explore alternative teaching methods applicable at the post secondary level which cater to this generation’s mindset. Primary and Secondary data gathered showed that society and the educational system did in fact produce a generation which is very well informed about today’s environmental issues, as well as how to do their part. Millennials were even found to have engrained instrumental values favoring sustainable behavior, though a massive gap exists between their preaching and their actions. This is seen in the findings of the studies referenced in this report, all of which clearly conclude that the Millennials’ concern for the environment is a superficial reflection of what they have been taught to believe, and is not something they believe in passionately enough to make concessions for.
