What are the causes of stress in Michael’s or Jennifer’s life? How is stress affecting Michael’s or Jennifer’s health? There are several key factors in Jennifer's life leading her to stress. Subconsciously she is still dealing with the loss of her baby, her mother, and the possibility of losing her father. Also her career is adding major stress to her life from her keeping everything together, and the long commutes to and from work. Also the fact that she is trying to please her husband, his parents, and her co-workers, it adds extra stress to her. Jennifer includes the comment that she does not feel like she is keeping up with housework. Her commute is lengthy and perhaps if Antonio could contribute to regular chores as well as meals this would alleviate some of her pressure to take care of housework. How are these stressors affecting Michael’s or Jennifer’s self-concept and self-esteem? Jennifer is torturing her body health wise, by trying to please everyone she is causing serious harm to herself. Not only is Jennifer…...

...Case study By Kevin Whelan Axia College of University of Phoenix PSY 210 Dean Marzofka January 11, 2011 Final Project: Case Study What are the causes of stress in Michael’s or Jennifer’s life? How is stress affecting Michael’s or Jennifer’s health? I chose to analyze the second case study, Michael the airline pilot, as I am in the same line of work, (aviation), I hope to be able to relate to the subjects symptoms, behaviors and anxieties and be able to relate positive and practical analysis and possible recommendations for coping with the anxieties of life in the profession of aviation. The primary stressors in Michael’s life are most likely a combination of the following: Chest pain, divorce and all the legal technicalities like paper work and the emotional implications, the end of a long marriage and loss of a close friend due to the commitment termination, (his wife), the difficult custody battle for his two children, ages 10 and 12, a heavy work schedule that keeps him away from his family two weeks a month, work concerns of possible lay offs in the future, the burden of a new town house in uncertain financial times, and finally, (if that all isn’t enough for one to deal with), unknown physical medical condition as a result of the increasing regularity of the chest pains. How are these stressors affecting Michael’s or Jennifer’s self-concept and self-esteem? In Michael’s case, self esteem has not been directly reflected in the case study, for......

...Final Project In Jennifer’s case there are several different factors that would be considered stressors in her life. Some of her daily hassles include her one-hour commute to and from work, housework that needs to be completed, a demanding work schedule, and her responsibilities to her employees. Her health is another daily stressor that she has to deal with since she feels as if she is sick, yet her doctor was unable to find anything wrong, and I am sure she is constantly worrying about her father and his wellbeing. This is a large amount for one person to handle even without mentioning that she is still in grieving concerning her mother and unborn child. Her husband’s parents seem like very loving individuals, but they are pressuring Jennifer into trying for another baby before she has properly grieved over her miscarriage and properly handled the situation with her father’s healthcare needs. All the major stressors aside, housework and her daily commute are just things that have to been complete. Jennifer’s health problems are obviously manifestations of her unresolved issues and the amount of stress that she is under; this is what is known as general adaption syndrome (GAS). Her headaches, backaches, and indigestion could be signs that she is currently in the alarm stage of GAS. This is how her body is dealing with the sudden changes in her life, and if she remains in a prolonged stressful state her body will begin to shutdown. It is a good sign that she is not......

Final Paper English 210

...CJ Loehner Eng. 210 Tina Crossgrove 9/19/13 Montresor: Criminal or Hero? “Amontillado” a type of sherry wine that cost a man his life and all because he had a deceptive friend who fools him into thinking he needed some wine tasted. Edgar Allen Poe uses many types of literary devices in his writing to give his readers an enjoyable story to read. One of the devices is double entendre. One of the finest examples of this writing technique is in Edger Allan Poe’s “Cask of Amontillado”. In Poe’s short story we meet the interesting character of Montresor, a rich man who is out for revenge. Revenge most people would not even consider worth killing someone over. Not only does he have this revenge, Montresor is not much of a man for he does not want to fight this battle fairly. Actually, he is a two-faced person who is friendly and caring to Fortunato’s face while planning on killing him the entire time. During this story Montresor sometimes speaks using a double entendre. A double entendre is when you say one thing but mean something altogether different. When one realizes this it makes it hard to understand and causes one to wonder if Montresor can be trusted as a narrator. Edger Allan Poe’s use of this literary device makes one wonder if the reader can really trust what Montresor has to say, an if he is a reliable narrator or not. The act of getting revenge on someone is one of the oldest actions taken throughout the history of mankind. Revenge is harming......

Psy/210 Psychology and Health Problems

...Trudy A. Linden-Craft PSY/210 Psychology and Health Problems Every individual, at one time or another will experience some level of stress in his or her daily lives. “The likelihood of contracting an illness—be it the flu or cancer— can reflect the interaction of many factors, including genetic factors and lifestyle factors” (Nevid & Rathus, 2005, pg 128). Studies in health psychology have revealed that there is not a distinct straightforward answer to the multitude of questions that arise. When determining how one’s health and susceptibility to stress-related illness is affected, the multifactoral model illustrates a wide range of factors that consist of biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors as well as the interactions of each. This paper will discuss potential health problems associated with each factor and how psychology’s role helps to recognize and control these health concerns. Biological factors are one of the apparent roles that help to determine the risk of an individual illness. Because biological factors are linked to an individual’s genetics, these factors are not able to be controlled by individuals. Some of these biological factors include inoculations, age, gender, injuries, birth defects disabilities, and family history disease. Most of these issues are a lifelong factor that begins in an individual’s childhood. Considering an individual’s genetics, one can determine if a person can acquire a behavior trait or become......
