1) Astronomy is the branch of science that deals with celestial objects, space and the physical universe in whole. Three specific challenges to making direct measurements in the fields of astronomy are: How to calculate how far away the stars are from the earth? How hot does the sun get? And how could we tell that there is life on Mars?
The way that scientist have utilized indirect forms of measure to overcome these challenges are.
To measure how far the stars are away from earth astronomers measures the distances to the close –by object. Then use the measurements observations to measure the other distance in the galaxies. This is a difficult because scientist cannot really make the correct measurements, its’ just a guess. Scientist can make direct measurements by using the Parallax to determine the distance of the stars, which can also guess the position of the plants.
For the measurement of how hot the sun can get NASA scientists have not been able to get close enough to the sun to actually determine how hot the sun is. Scientist estimate the temperature of the sun by how much radiation that comes from the ball of gas, the gamma-rays and also the X-rays from the sun are measured to be very hot according to www.imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov. The scientist uses a formula to measure the volume, density of the sun and the radius helps determine how hot the sun maybe. Scientist cannot get close enough to the sun to get the actual measurement.
For the final difficult task how can scientist tell that there is life on Mars? Scientists are able to test the theory if life can live on Mars. The only challenge is that scientist are guessing that there is water on mars, and also methane gas is on the planet, but that does not mean life can live on the planet. Scientists are guessing from…...

The Science of First Impressions

...Before I make my big speech, think about your first impression of me when I got up here? Am I pretty, do I seem confident, nice, shy, mean? Or are you a person who doesn’t like to judge. There IS huge societal push to not judge a book by it’s cover, but the fact of the matter is, we do, whether we realize it or not. There is literally nothing you can do to change that, and that’s a huge part of what makes you human From the moment you are born. * There are seemingly infinite factors that go in to the development of relationships, but I want to give you a bit of scientific, psychological, and sociological knowledge about the moment they start, and what that means to you as a human * Because - The moment we see someone new, a snap judgment is made and a first impression is in the works. * I said that we start to judge as soon as we see someone, and it’s true * In the first 25th of a second, our senses are processing loads of new information * After a longer period of time has passed, say one tenth of a second we have judged their * Attractiveness * Likeability * Trustworthiness * After five seconds of watching a stranger chat with a member of the opposite sex we have ascertained * Extraversion * Conscientiousness * And intelligence -we do this because relationships are derived from rewards * What others can do for us -Over the millennia, we have ingrained this into our very...

Starting with the kids is a good way of spreading the message early in their lives, in the hope that they carry it forward as they grow older. Thinking of ways to save Mother Earth? It's high time we do, as the planet we live on is suffering. We are extracting all it has - oil, ores, water and more. We are cutting down trees, we are killing animals, we are exploiting nature. Managers that are less natural decision-makers are often able to make quality assessments, but then need to be more decisive in acting upon the assessments made. Good decision-making requires a mixture of skills: creative development and identification of options, clarity of judgment, firmness of decision, and effective implementation. Here are some useful methods for effective decision-making: First a simple step-by-step process for effective decision-making. ...Economies of Scale * Price Fixing * Collusion * Monopoly Pricing * Price Maker * Market Power * Economic Profits * Imperfect Competition * Rent-Seeking Behavior * X-Inefficiency * Deadweight Loss to Society * Marginal Cost * Marginal Revenue * Antitrust The Sherman Antitrust Act (Sherman Act,[1] July 2, 1890, ch. 647, 26 Stat. 209, 15 U.S.C. §§ 1–7) is a landmark federal statute on United States competition law passed by Congress in 1890. It prohibits certain business activities that federal government regulators deem to be anticompetitive, and requires the federal government to investigate and pursue trusts, companies, and organizations suspected of being in violation. It was the first federal statute to limit cartels and monopolies, and today still forms the basis for most antitrust litigation by the United States federal government. The point of the law, according to Senator Sherman was to, "protect the consumers by preventing arrangements designed, or which tend, to advance the cost of the consumer".  The Sherman anti trust act was signed into law by by President Benjamin Harrison on 2 July 1890, after passing by a 51 - 1 vote in the Senate on 8 April 1890 and by a unanimous vote of 242 - 0 by the House of Representatives on 20 June 1890. Assignment 2: Science at the Zoo

...Assignment 2- Science at the Zoo Introduction- The different roles that can be done at the zoo are education, animal welfare, recreation, research and conservation. The zoo participates in captive breeding programmes and conservation projects in the wild. This allows a whole variety of sciences to be used. Ecology are veterinary are the two main ones and the science goes into a lot of depth when considering breeding programmes. Conservation- is the preservation, protection, or restoration of the natural environment, natural ecosystems, vegetation, and wildlife. In Situ- means that the conservation is taken place in a natural environment. For example, in a forest or in an ocean. There are many associations such as UmPhafa and Action for the Wild that do this effectively. They try and do methods that preserve species, which are endangered in the wild. The individuals who work there try and make sure they have minimal contact with the animals there. UmPhafa’s strategy is ‘less to do with the management of the wildlife, but more the rehabilitation of the habitat itself to facilitate the restoration of a natural balance.’ Ex Situ- Ex-situ conservation means literally, "off-site conservation". It is the process of protecting an endangered species of plant or animal outside its natural habitat. An example of this could be in a zoo. BIAZA (British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums) and EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria) are both charities that support zoos...

Which Came First? Science or Technology?

...At first I thought this is a simple question and I could justify my answer in a matter of seconds but as I contemplate about it, it is actually difficult. I had to consult other people to get their opinion about it because I do not want to rely only on my own. Most of them said it was science which came first. And so I browsed the web to acquire more information. I came across so many blogs and articles debating and justifying which really came first. Some says it is science because since when the universe was created, it is already there, just waiting to be discovered while some says it is technology because before science was discovered, the human primates already uses technology back then without them knowing that what they were using were some sort of technology. If we are going to get the meaning of the two, according to Merriam Dictionary, Science is a body of knowledge about or study of the natural world based on facts learned through experiments and observation while Technology is the use of science in industry, engineering, etc., to invent useful things or to solve problems. But in my opinion though, technology does not necessarily rely on science all the time. Science is the research of what we do not know while technology is the application of that we know. Science is concerned with "what it is" and technology is concerned with “what it is to be". Technologists would mostly conceptualise possible ideas without depending on any scientific bases or advances. But,......

If fairness were a top priority, Krystal would not be left responsible for the entire presentation, as it would be identified much earlier that Jacob was not contributing as much. Possible solutions include Option (1) Jacob could simply split the reward with Krystal, but the problem would only be masked and she still would not receive the recognition she deserves for the outcome of the presentation. Or (2) he could consult Krystal to let her know he identifies there is a problem and they, together, present the issue to management. Management is now able to recognize Krystal for her role in the contract deal, new guidelines for project assignments are established, and the $10,000 is redistributed fairly. Proper grooming of its members will ensure a business operates ethically. Good business ethics are carried out at every level of a successful company. Management sets the standard for the employees while the employees rely on the policies in place and their own moral compass to respond to ethical dilemmas. The success and reputation of a company relies heavily on the ethics and practices of its members.
