James Thomas, Senator for the State of Oklahoma

To the Congress of the United States of America: When our Constitution was first drafted the Founding Fathers argued long and hard about the inclusion of a Bill of Rights .The key reason the Founders finally united and agreed to pass a Bill of Rights, even though the Federalists had initially argued that a piece of paper could not act to protect individual freedoms, was because they felt there had to be a way to “oblige the government to control itself,” (Postell). There are many searches of colonists’ private homes and their inability to protect themselves from such intrusions by the British Crown led the Founders to pass the Fourth Amendment (Flex Your Rights Foundation). At its core, the Fourth Amendment protects the right of the people to be free from an absolute government intrusion and from a government that has run wild with its own power. The Fourth Amendment says (Findlaw): The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. People have a right to feel safe in their houses and property cannot be lost to government action simply because the government has the power. To protect people from government intrusion and its aggressive exercise of power, probable cause was and is now required before a warrant is granted (Findlaw). Americans have an absolute right to be safe from unreasonable searches and seizures, such as those conducted in countries where simply the way a person looks at a police officer is enough for the officer to arrest or torture them (Findlaw; Reuters). It is a necessary requirement of our…...

...Congress of the United States, There is a specific issue I would like to address, and that is the Exclusionary Rule. I am most certain that you are familiar with the Exclusionary Rule, and its meaning. The Exclusionary Rule is grounded by the Fourth Amendment, and its intentions are to protect citizens from illegal search and seizures. I am most definitely for this rule. I am a firm believer in our constitutional rights, and if it were not for the Exclusionary Rule, a lot of citizens that were charged with a crime after they were illegally searched will be found guilty, convicted, and then sentenced even though the evidence that was presented against them was gathered illegally. That is flat out a violation of their Fourth Amendment rights. If there was no Fourth Amendment, or Exclusionary Rule, a lot of people would be convicted of crimes based on the said evidence gathered was gathered illegally against them, and that would most likely give law enforcement the opportunity to gather evidence in a less morale way. I am not saying that all police officials would use these illegal tactics to gather evidence to convict a defendant, but there are some. Example: Mapp vs. Ohio May 1957. May 23, 1957 Cleveland Ohio police officials were following up on information they had about a bombing suspect was housed at Dollree Mapp house. They were also under the impression that there was also illegal gambling equipment in the house. The police attempted to try and search the...

...compensation are tied to a benchmark, companies must disclose where actual payments and awards fall within the targeted range and, if applicable, the reason for any compensation amounts that fall outside the targeted range. 2.4 Disclosure of Performance Targets Companies must disclose company and individual performance targets for incentive compensation and the actual achievement level against the targets if they are material elements of the company’s compensation policies and decisions, unless the disclosure would result in competitive harm to the company. 6 EXECUTIVE COMPENSATION DISCLOSURE HANDBOOK Since adoption of the rules, the SEC has consistently focused on this disclosure requirement and to date has issued more comment letters to companies on this item of disclosure than any other. The SEC has also clarified that although the general rules regarding disclosure of non-GAAP financial measures (Regulation G) do not apply to disclosure regarding performance-related target levels, a company must disclose how the target levels are calculated from its audited financial statements. Š Threshold Question Is Materiality. A company must first determine whether performance targets are a material element of the company’s compensation policies and decisions. If performance targets are not material, then the company is not required to disclose them. Whether performance targets are material is a facts-and-circumstances test, which a company must evaluate in good faith. The......

...November carjacking.[5] Trial and appeals The 26-year-old victim picked out Dupree and Massingill from a police lineup, but her male companion did not. Dupree was charged with armed robbery and rape, but was never tried on the rape charge. In 1980, he was convicted and sentenced to 75 years in prison for aggravated robbery. Three of Dupree's appeals were rejected by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.[1] Two of the appeals were denied because he refused to admit to being a sex offender.[6] He declined early release in 2004 in exchange for attending a treatment program for offenders because he felt it would have amounted to admitting guilt.[4] Dupree later said, "Whatever your truth is, you have to stick with it."[6] Dupree continued to write letters to people and organizations around the state in his bid to prove his innocence.[7] Exoneration In 2006, the Innocence Project took Dupree's case and carried out a forensic examination of the case evidence in 2010.[1] He was represented by a legal team that included project co-founder Barry Scheck.[8] Dupree was paroled in July 2010 and married his longtime fiancée Selma Perkins the day after his release.[6] Soon afterwards,[1] test results indicated that the evidence contained DNA from two men, but not Dupree nor Massingill.[4] Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins stated, "Our Conviction Integrity Unit thoroughly reinvestigated this case, tested the biological evidence and based on the results, concluded Cornelius......

...Letter Dear Mr. President, Civic and political participation is important for citizens because everyone has the responsibility to stand up for what they believe in. Citizens in America enjoy writing letters to important leaders to receive informative feedback on their thoughts. Citizen’s words effect how the laws change in many ways, for example, by voting. Eleanor Roosevelt influenced change through speaking about civil rights. ER was committed to standing up for African American rights. She was so active in racial injustice that the FBI had a 4000 page dossier about ER pertaining to her civil rights activities. “J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI, even speculated that "Negro blood" inspired ER's perverse behavior.” “She was considered America's most influential First Lady, she started new paths for women and led the battle for social justice everywhere. Today she is still a powerful inspiration to leaders in both the civil rights and women's movements. Eleanor shattered the usual submissive mold that the role of the First Lady had traditionally been fashioned, and reshaped it around her own skills and her commitment to social reform. She gave a voice to people who did not have power.” Others benefit from ER’s actions by getting all the credit that she stood up for women and their rights. If it wasn’t for Eleanor’s contributions we women would not get all the credit that we deserve. Eleanor Roosevelt’s deserves a holiday that would celebrate her and all her......

The league does ask the girls to participle in fund raisers to help offset some of these costs. But with your help the league will be able to help more girls and families. ...Alexus Harris January 26, 2010 History 114 2:00 - 2:30 p.m Willie Lynch Letter: The Making of a Slave In the first paragraph of the Willie Lynch Letter introduction, he started thanking the men of the colony of Virginia for inviting him to the bank of the James River. Mr. Lynch was making the men of the plantation think that, installing the chip into the slaves will make everything run easily. He also stated that if the chip were implant into the minds of slaves, Ancient Rome would envy us as black people. Personally, I think the only reason that the Ancient Rome will envy us as slaves, because we let a method of the chip control our mind, body, soul, values, and beliefs. Mr. Lynch also stated that negative differences are better then positive differences. Just think about it. Why? Would Distrust be better then Trust, this is setting our slaves up to be lynch in my eyes. As a slave, you want freedom so; you are going to want your master to trust you so that you can escape. Mr. Lynch finally, said that over time if you constantly used the method for one year, then slaves will already no what they are expecting to perform. In the paragraph “Let’s Make a Slave,” it was focusing on the process of man breaking and slave making. This means that installing the chip into our black men will allow them to become more of a servant that helps the white man lynch other slaves. It also focused on human nature, and slave nature. ...Comp 1 Homework 2. (TWO LETTERS) Due Date 4/1/2014. Topic :- The Massachusetts public smoking ban will be expanded to prohibit smoking in public parks, within one thousand feet of a building entrance and in all parking facilities. The ban will extend to electronic cigarettes as well. My purpose for this letter is to inform by expressing my happiness for the ban. This letter is addressed to my Senator and will be formal. March 31, 2014. Senator Elizabeth Warren U.S Senator For Massachusetts. 2400 JFK Federal Building, 15 New Sudbury Street. Boston MA 02203. Dear Sen. Warren. The recently enacted Massachusetts smoking ban is a wonderful idea. It brings joy to my heart that the legislature finally has gotten what concerned citizens such as myself have been trying to bring to the forefront for some time now. I believe that our entrance ways and parking facilities should and have to be smoke free. I also believe that we do not know the true effects of electronic cigarettes, but still very happy that it was included in the ban. It is my belief that all tobacco products should be banned even though some smokers believe that they are supporting the economy with the taxes imposed on such products. I believe that smokers want to levy their ideas against non-smokers because it is their right to. But they may be doing more harm than good. I am writing you today to emphasize that we should stand firm on the smoking ban. I will lend my support in any possible. I......

...Assuming the role of a Radical Republican Senator including arguing the Radical Republicans position of Reconstruction requires examining the highlights of Andrew Johnson’s Reconstruction views for the Union, which include developing an oath under which Caucasian southerners would have to accept upon regaining personal civil including political rights furthermore all property excluding slaves would be given back to the owners. Confederate hierarchies including individuals whose property was worth a specific amount of money were discounted from taking the oath in which these individuals had to apply for an independent pardon. Under Johnson’s plan states had draft new congress including the election of state officials including congress for recognition of new state government and martial law retracted from the state. Ex-confederates influenced Andrew Johnson by methods of threatening his life, which made Johnson conform to ex-confederate influences by writing pardon after pardon while in the public spotlight Andrew Johnson’s proclaim to Reconstruction was complete. Deriving from Johnson’s absurd claim were few followers representing Moderate Republicans who conformed to Johnson while possessing some views similar to Radical Republicans who openly opposed Andrew Johnson’s Reconstruction methods. Radical Republicans idea of Reconstruction centralized on making a mirror copy of the North out of the South while Moderate Republicans hold no regard for social revolution or......

The Letter a

...I constructed the letter A. The way I built my letter resembled an isoceles triangle. My letter has two sides that are the same length and two of base angles are the same in length. The definintion of an isoceles triangle is a triangle with two sides of equal length and two congruent base angles. The letter A I built and isoceles triangle are almost a perfect match. Another geometry concept that connectes with my letter, A was an acute angle. An acute angle is an angle that is less than 90 degrees. The triangle inside the letter A I constructed has an acute angle. The triangle has 3 angles that are acute all are less than 90 degrees and will add up to 180 degrees. The final concept I thought my letter connects with is parallel lines. The two lines in the center of the letter A are parallel to eachother, the two lines will never cross eachother or intersect. Parallel lines are lines in a plane that will not touch, cross, or intersect even when the lines are extended. The two lines in the center are not the only ones that are parallel to each other, the one line on top of my letter and the other thats on the bottom are also parallel. Those are the three geometry concepts I thought my letter connected with. My first semester of geometry did not go as well as I would have liked it to go. I failed most of the tests and quizzes because I was not responsible and did not do the homework assigned and study the reviews given. Despite all my failures this semester I always went to......

...Name Address December 15, 2011 Senator John Smith U.S.Senate 241 Russell Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510-0001 Subject: Proposed Television Ban of Violent Movies and Shows during the hours of 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Dear Senator Smith, As your constituent I urge you, as a Member of the Senate, to support the proposed Ban of Violent Movies and Shows during the hours of 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The violence promoted by the media has a profound and degradating effect on the younger generation, as is evidenced by the amount of violence in school all the way down to the Elementary level. We must be diligent in the protection of our children’s physical and mental well being by monitoring the amount of depravity they are subjected to. Statistics have shown that children with behavioral, emotional, learning or impulse control issues, such as mine, are more easily influenced by the violence shown on TV. In a study done by the Parents Television Council (PTC) [http://www.parentstv.org/PTC/publications/reports/violencestudy/exsummary.asp] it was shown that violence on TV had increased by 75% between 1998 and 2005. With Television shows like C.S.I. , Dexter, and True Blood appealing to the younger generation, and placed in timeslots when these children would be watching TV, Cable networks are currently contributing to the sexualization and the aggressiveness of the younger generations. Researchers from the University of Michigan have published......
